The Young Veins stuff...just formulaic music-by-numbers that has gone over the lines a little. The backing is generally inoffensive, though the vocals are weak. Great idea, lacking in execution and leaves you wishing for what it might have been.
Love a couple of the Rooney tracks. While they are also treading a well-worn path, at least the music is quality.
I feel the same way about Rooney this time around. The last album was so good and this one really isn't up to par for me. That said, Robert's solo stuff is fun and interesting, and Taylor Locke's album earlier this year is FANTATSTIC. And I heard Ned has an album coming out too that is being produced by Mike Viola, so that should be pretty fantastic.
The thing about Rooney, which The Young Veins does not have, is every member is fantastic in their own right. They all have great vocal chaps and they're all multi-instrumentalists. Panic! had that too. It was called Brendan and Ryan Ross is the biggest dweeb of all time for giving that up just so he could have complete creative control. He could have just as easily done his little retro album as a side project in the downtime. Just like every other band.
