Yesterday at the age of 78 died a great figure of Czech culture, Ladislav Smoljak. He was a great director, script writer and actor and I was lucky to see one of his last performances last month. I'm very sorry to hear that. Although I don't know much about him, I can imagine that it's a great loss. The last time I felt like this was when Sir Peter Ustinov died. He was such a remarkable guy - not only as an actor/artist but also as a person. I knew he was quite old and very ill - but still, I was terribly sad.
