Haha, Uzumaki's end is all kinds of messed up; it also left me thinking about it for a long time. "The moment it ended was the moment it began" is a pretty haunting quote, since it implies that things will repeat themselves. BUT your interpretation fits very well too- that its not that it ends, but things unwind from the center of the spiral and progress differently. It's been a while since I read the manga, but Kirie was like, 'touched' by the spiral, wasn't she? That she would feel complete to end it makes sense too. Obviously I really liked this read, and I'm glad you wrote it; anything to make that ending a bit happier xD

Thanks for the comment!

Yeah, in canon Kirie was "touched" by the spiral, starting with her curling hair, but it didn't stop even after her hair was cut short. She was just more resistant to the spiral curse than everyone around her, except for Shuichi.

He seemed to be the most resistant of all, but it also made him insane to resist it, which is one reason why Kirie often took the lead in decision-making.

I really wanted something resembling a happy ending too. That feeling was a major motivation in writing this.
