I'm future-dating this FAQ post so it will always be on top.
If you have anything you want to ask me just put it into a comment to this post and I'll try to answer it, and I'm slowly developing an FAQ file too:
Q:You friended my livejournal, but I don't know you. What shall I do? Will I offend you if I don't friend you back?
A: I usually friend about matters relating to Death Note and/or fanfic, kind of like making a bookmark to myself to remind myself to check out your journal from time to time to see if you've got more fics or other stuff I might like. If your friends-locked entries are all about personal things such as your cat, your grandma or your job, I'm probably not interested in them and I won't be offended if you don't friend me back. However, if you've been locking entries containing Death Note fanfic, then please let me see?
Q: Where can I find all of your fan fiction?
A: I don't actually have a masterlist of all my fanfics, but I have two things that function almost the same as a masterlist.
Use my
LiveJournal tags pags and look for any tag that starts with "title:" (for example,
title:fever dreams) and that will show you almost all of my finished fan fiction, no matter which archive I'm storing it at, because my livejournal post about each title will contain links to archive copies.
For a master list of finished fanfics plus additional unfinished fanfics that don't yet appear on LiveJournal, see my
AO3 account.
The only other fan fiction I've got that you won't find by using those techniques is stuff that isn't uploaded anywhere, stuff that was submitted to prompts or kink memes in an unedited form and is awaiting editing, or excerpts from finished, unfinished or unuploaded fan fics.
Q: Do you have any fan fiction that is not in English?
A: Some translations have been done. See
the translations tag or
the translations post for a list. If you are producing translations yourself, please tell me so that I can link to them.
Q: When are you going to update next?
A: Check out
my profile at fanfiction.net for the "Schedule for Updating Stories" which has my best guess. Generally, when life is really interfering with writing I tend to update around twice a month, and when life is not interfering at all I update at least once a week and sometimes even 3 or 4 times in one week.
Q: When are those doujinshi (fan comics) you're always mentioning going to appear?
A: I don't know, but hopefully as soon as possible. I'm working on them sometimes when I don't feel like writing fan fiction but want to do something related to Death Note. I'll probably start a DeviantArt account when the time comes.
Q: I have ideas based on one of your fanfics, and want to write it. Can I write
recursive fanfiction of your fanfiction?
A: I get this question a lot, but so far I think only one person has actually done it.
Yes, you can do it, as long as you're not rude about it. Meaning, credit me and my fic's title somewhere in the author notes on your fanfic, don't copy and paste large chunks of text from my fic at the beginning of yours, and have the courtesy to only write fanfiction of my finished fanfiction. If I haven't finished something yet I'd rather not see other people writing fanfiction of it unless you get permission directly from me. Once a fic is complete, it's fair game.
Note: if I've given anyone permission to do a sequel on an anonymous kink meme, then the requirement about crediting me by name obviously doesn't apply. It's enough to credit the other story by anonymous.
However, if you're not actually writing fanfiction of my fanfiction, if you're just writing a similar idea that you could have gotten entirely on your own, none of these requirements apply because what you're doing isn't derivative at all. Ideas are just that, ideas, and the Death Note fandom has some ideas (such as L and Light having sex while wearing handcuffs) that have been done independently hundreds of times. No credit is needed for similar ideas.
