Oh my darling, darling credenza!

Our dear friend M. went with Ulysses to pick up the credenza on Friday afternoon.  Even though I had been worried in the shop that it was too small, it’s the perfect size for our living room.  We got it in and started pulling off the backing.  I’d thought that we’d have to take the backing off, remove a couple of internal shelves, put a lot of ( Read more... )

i thought a credenza was a closety affair with bureau drawers on the bottom.

very sleek saskatchewan.

is that lion wearing a toque and a fur-lined hooded parka? he is very scary.

I think that’s an armoire. Speaking of oddball furniture names, my grandmother always called the tall dresser, “the chiffonier”. I think that stuff is meant to be the skin of the lion, but it’s all worn through and creepy as all get out. I should mention this to Michael Ondaatje.

This past weekend, I saw the lion *in person!* It is soooo much scarier! Up close, that toque looks an awful lot like flayed muscle. The picture is a little blurry, so what you might not realize is that under the nose and whiskers are a set of MASSIVE sharp white teeth!

I'm not even going to tell you what happens when you wind it up.

Suffice it to say, the windup lion has joined ranks with the dead fish and broken teeth of my nightmares. I fully expect it to pursue me when next I show up naked to an exam for which I haven't studied.

Oooh, it looks SO good! Pictures of your living room always make me want to be there RIGHT NOW, drinking wine and laughing with you wonderful people. Tell Mia her paintings have received raves from those who live in my house.

Oh, good god! I keep meaning to write and tell you that I’ll at least buy you a drink to reimburse you for those paintings. Chalk it up to the fact that I was sick that day, but I did not mean that you should come to our home to do us an enormous favour and have Mia hit you up for funds. I was obviously not on the ball. So do come over and drink lots of wine. I’ll make you laugh. Name your date!

That lion is utterly terrifying. But your pics are lovely, and are inspiring me to tidy.

I've been reading your journal for ages - through damnhellasskings and originally through a canadian feminist portal that I can't remember right now. I'm not always the swiftest kitten in the box, so it only occurred to me this morning, that since I now am on livejournal, I could friend you. So I'm going to, if that's alright.

I love the word credenza! I also LOVE that terrifying lion! It's so cute despite being so terribly terrifying!
