know thyself, harpie

The kids are in bed after a long, comfortable chat about their lives.  They’ve very grown-up, but they’re also still kids, so there’s an interesting mix of “hmmm, interesting” and “aw! you’re so adorable!” (I keep that last one to myself).

The eleven year old says:

“Kids have no power in the world.  We can’t vote and we have no money.  I don’t know ( Read more... )

Hilariously, I just noticed this a mere three entries down my page: “The next day I spent my first class being all passionately in opposition to the readings (although I can’t now remember why).” Hah! So if I can’t remember why, it’s like it . . . didn’t happen!

for the record i have never found you contradictory. i just think your way of framing the contradictory tale was very funny. in fact i find you more funny than contradictory. and more affirming than funny. so there.

Okay, I love that you think of yourself as mild and easy-going. Don't get me wrong, you're far from unpleasant or difficult, and I love that you see perspectives others don't...but...mild? hahahaha

You’re right: probably no one would actually describe me as ‘mild’. But I want to be mild! And easy-going! And serene! I also want to think of myself as the kind of person who could shut-up when called upon to do so, but um, another one of the comments was “yours was an oft-heard voice in class”. Ah, the disagreeing and contradiction was ‘oft-heard’! Worse and worse!

That's what two-drink booze was invented for. Four-drink booze is more for, "wow! Let's talk about this amazing thing! A LOT!"

I love hearing your disagreements! They are not oft-heard enough, in my case!

I'm going to be at the JB tonight. And you can hear me oft if you're going to be there. Deal?

Oh the feedback of others and uncomfortable truths.

*laughs and laughs and laughs*

I had an awful lot of that in my time at theology school.

Some of it sounded quite similar to yours!

Speaking of hilarity, the kids and I were talking the other day about what a good time we had in Montreal and your kids came up as “our friends in Montreal”. It’s so strange that they have these adult-seeming connections with people.
