Dear Lord

I don't know why I'm watching the presidential debate as I am Canadian but I have to say, if America votes this Romney guy in I'm moving to the Yukon. As far north as possible as I can get before I end up in Alaska ( Read more... )

So, as an American who actually follows politics and worries about our 16 trillion dollar deficit, I respectfully disagree. But you are still welcome to move to the Yukon.

Wow. Ok. That was almost respectful. If I am missing a key factor as to why Romney is a good candidate I would love to be swayed in my opinion. Please to be enlightening me.

Curious why you are anonymous...

Rationale for anonymity? Well, on LJ, my opinion that individuals should support themselves and make a stronger country together doesn't garner much support. I don't deny that there are many, many people who need my help, and I am happy to give it when I can. I have done it many times ( ... )

Thank you for this well worded, and polite response.

There are definitively factors that I was unaware of which is why I am delighted that you chose to respond.

I obviously do not have much, if any, concept of American politics. But I do like to hear differing opinions and viewpoints. Quite honestly, the most I know about Romney is some very unflattering opinions, I have heard, he has with regards to women. Whether they are factual is not something I can say with any degree certainty. I confess that I have not been paying a whole lot of attention as at the end of the day I can't vote. That being said, I am very happy that you chose to share your views with me so that I can be better informed ( ... )

I have to agree with the anon comment. Basically I feel like the President hasn't done what he promised these last 4 years. Things have only gotten worse. Our debt has gone for 10 trillion to 16 trillion dollars in the last 4 yrs. Our gas prices are over $4 a gallon. As a recent college grad with a B.A. and a Masters degree, I am still unable to find a job. Our unemployment rate has continued to rise and that doesn't even count people like me who are out of school and have yet to even find their first job. These are just some examples. I respect your opinion and you are entitled to it. I just simply disagree.

Thank you! I'm remaining anon because I write a lot and I don't want to be scorned.

I really don't understand the scorned thing. No one should feel persecuted for an opinion.

Unfortunately I can see what this person means. Supporting a republican isn't the popular thing. Everyone still thinks this party is for the old people or the people who have money or people who are against the woman's right to choose or who don't like people who are gay. That's not true. I myself am pro-choice, pro-gay rights, and I'm a republican who certainly doesn't have billions invested in oil like is the stereotype.

You know what's so funny to me? Obama said he'd do four primary things if he was President. He did them *all* in the first two years.

::shrugs::

The problem in this country is that everyone thinks there's a quick solution. There's not. It takes *years* for markets to balance after they've been nudged [think the fed lowering/raising interest rates] the typical one quarter we wait and see what happens is only a short term effect, actual markets -- particularly international markets where you're dealing with *numerous* slow/shrinking markets makes the cause/effect take even longer.

The economic problem in *this* country is directly tied to the economic problems through out the world. Until most of them are growing instead of shrinking we'll be in our stagnant economy.

Other than that?

Anyone who doesn't see women as equal to men? fuck them

See, now, I have no idea about economics and/or foreign policy. I have no idea what he has or hasn't done with regards to the average americans bottom line so I can't really say much of anything in that respect.

The only things I know, and I use the term loosely, is an apparent disregard for women equality and the one issue that is near and dear to my heart gay rights. From what I have seen Obama seems to have a more positive view on the issue.

I can clearly remember my fear of crossing the border when Mr. Bush was president and I hope that experience will not be repeated.

Other than that?

Love you honey ;_;

He didn't do all of them though. One of his biggest things in his campaign was his promise of a thousand dollars to each family and no raised taxes. Then he got into office and said he didn't know how bad everything was and couldn't give anyone that kind of refund check, or whatever you wanna call it.

As for the women's rights stuff, I'm still looking into that myself. I don't know what the exact claims are but I do know that Romney has hired women during his time as governor and such to work with him so I'm not sure how all this stuff got started. I've only ever seen mentions of it on twitter but nothing that really explains it.

But don't take my word for it -- I'm a Democrat and a liberal. Listen to what the Salt Lake Tribune has to say about Romney, as they endorse Obama:

From his embrace of the party’s radical right wing, to subsequent portrayals of himself as a moderate champion of the middle class, Romney has raised the most frequently asked question of the campaign: "Who is this guy, really, and what in the world does he truly believe ( ... )

*grins*

I love when you do this. I eagerly read your opinions because you are always so obviously passionate about everything you're talking about.

Thanks for the insight and the links, I will be checking it out and educating myself. I had heard about the 47% previously and thought he was a douchebag based on that.

I really don't want to see another 'war is the answer' president. For the simple fact, my border is too close and the backlash has the potential to spread far and wide.

Hee! Thanks for welcoming my rant. :)

I just... I get flames on the side of my face when good people get duped by the Republicans' deficit baloney. Republican voters may dislike deficits, but Republican politicians love deficits! Deficits allow cuts, even "austerity" (for regular people, not the super-wealthy). Because their whole ideology is that government shouldn't do anything, and they hate programs (like Soc. Security and Medicare) that actually work and work well.

And that 47% thing... it's like he doesn't know any regular people at all, so it's easy to write half of them off. And we're a phenomenally wealthy country, even allowing for all our wars and Wall St. shenanigans, so I happen to think government SHOULD make sure people don't go hungry and that old people can retire. (Especially when most people pay into systems like food stamps and Social Security their entire lives -- these aren't handouts, these are things people have earned.)

Hey honey!

I only recently heard about the pro-life thing. Seriously? Is that right? How can an educated person really believe they have the right to choose that for someone else. I know that is probably an incendiary remark on my part but I very adamantly believe in a woman's right to choose.

I also heard he was an Adventist/Mormon? Those people scare me, for the simple fact that they very strongly seem to believe that their way is the only way and that way is in direct contrast to pretty much everything I am.

I love how passionate everyone is. If I had posted these remarks about a Canadian debate I doubt there would been a single comment. We are so apathetic it's insane.

Well, part of that is we Americans don't know diddly about your politics. And boring politics sound great! We have lunatics like Todd Akin saying women's bodies prevent pregnancy in the case of rape.

musing_mia October 25 2012, 00:03:17 UTC
Or that a pregnancy from rape is a gift from God. My God, these men are beyond repulsive.
