I think this was one of the worst episodes of House ever...
Oh, wow. I found this episode to be highly disappointing. I was surprised because I like Kaplow’s episodes and most of Foster’s, but this is an exception. It was a real letdown.
Cuddy - It seems to me that it’s natural that she wouldn’t feel a strong attachment to the baby right away. She did not bond with the baby as she was growing inside her. I don’t think instant love is reasonable to expect. Also, one doesn’t yell at a baby to make it stop crying, and if one does, it doesn’t typically make the baby quiet. Finally, the whole episode seems to have taken place in one day since Cameron was wearing the same blue dress with puffy sleeves the whole time (Chase commenting that Cameron’s dressing like Cuddy was completely weird because I don’t think Cuddy would wear anything like that), and I don’t think Cuddy would resolve all her reservations about her decision in one day and based on the fact that she yelled at the baby and it stopped crying. Oh, and Cuddy calling to yell at House, Cameron, et. al. during the open-brain surgery and it being left on in the operating room was ridiculous beyond belief.
Cameron - Oh, God. At least at the end Cameron was finally able to see and admit something Cuddy has known all along (since back when she put Foreman in charge in S2), but seemingly forgot temporarily - Cameron will never be able to say no to House. Duh. It is more than time for her to leave, as there is nothing more for her to learn from House (as House said, “Cameron approved something premature, reckless, and lethal”) and no reason for her to be in House’s orbit.
Shipper string-along showdown - Puh-lease. House telling Cameron that eventually she’ll put out and then Cameron smugly saying, “That’s why I took the job”? Are we going to go back to Cameron’s crush *again*? Or is it just the shipper string-along showdown? Because that, too, is incredibly tiring, though it seems like that is the direction we’re headed for, considering (a) Foreman telling House he never thought he’d see the day that he’d be taking orders from Cameron and that Cameron’s trying to “make her mark” on him, and (b) Kutner telling House he hasn’t figured Cameron out yet (whereas, clearly, he *has* figured her out).
Wilson - I thought he looked incredibly handsome and I liked him trying to be supportive of Cuddy (and I liked when he called her “Lisa”; I really can see the two of them together as a couple), but I thought he was a rat for telling House what Cuddy confided in him. Surely he knew House would jump at the chance to harass her about it. Also, I thought it was hysterical (but kind of mean) that he made up the story about getting the baby’s photo age-enhanced. Wilson buying Cuddy things because he doesn’t know what to say or how to help was perfectly in character, though.
Foreman and Chase - I enjoyed their talk in the cafeteria, both talking about their own problems at the same time. Their banter almost (almost) had a House/Wilson feel to it. :-)
Foreman and Thirteen - THIS was the only storyline I really cared about at all tonight. I would much rather have been given substantial things with House to watch, but considering the quality of everything else, the Foreman and Thirteen story was all that made sense. It looks like Thirteen might not last long and that makes me sad because I have grown to like her (as long as whole episodes aren’t about her) and I’ve even been liking Foreman since he’s been with her. And it was so touching that Thirteen told Foreman she wants kids! You know they’re feeling real love for each other. *sigh* The one great House moment that came out of the Foreman/Thirteen story was Foreman asking House what to do about the drug trial and House telling Foreman he shouldn’t risk his career and then adding, “Unless you love her. If you love her then you do stupid things.” I love that House said that and I love that he had a look on his face that I haven’t seen since he was with Stacy in S2 - but I’m going to find it incredibly hard to believe if the writers are implying that House loves Cuddy and that’s why he’s being cruel to her. It’s no secret that I prefer House/Stacy, but, that aside, I’d find it really hard to believe that House would be as in love with Cuddy the way he was with Stacy.
Kutner and Taub - I love them more and more with every episode. I really wanted to hear more when Kutner began telling the patient (what was her name? That shows how uninterested I was in her and her medical problems) that he wanted to be a doctor since he was eight…
PotW - Hardly could have cared less about her. I don't know when I was ever so disinterested in the medical case.
In the shallow end - Cuddy’s really lovely with softer makeup and House is hot in scrubs that show off his arms. Also, House holding the baby was kind of sweet - but I hope it isn’t foreshadowing.
Okay, so feel free to try to convince me that this was a great episode! :-)
