Wow, I know I can get ranty over subtitles and closed captioning on DVD releases, especially when it comes to things I am really wanting to see on DVD myself, but every so often, you just get a reminder of why you should keep pushing, asking and raising awareness of the need for subtitles.

Companies actually produce DVDs without subtitles in this day and age???

Yes, especially independent companies. It's rather costly to do so but nowadays there is subtitling software so it'd be rather remiss for them not to have it available. This guy got tetchy with me as I said I wouldn't buy a DVD of I AM NANCY, (a documentary on Heather Langenkamp and her experience with the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise) as it didn't have subtitles (what, should I just use it as a pretty expensive coaster?). The company left a message to say that the next batch of DVDs will have it, but I wouldn't have known that since the information for the DVD says CLOSED CAPTIONING: NO. So that guy was just being a bit rude, really.

You'd be surprised what top companies do it, Ali (the Will Smith boxing film) was released on DVD without subtitles. Withnail and I is on DVD without subtitles. Veronica Mars Series 2 had Subtitles in Spanish but not English which pissed me off as the first series had English subtitles. Many more can be found in the DVD Subtitles Hall Of Shame. The company that put Freaks & Geeks on DVD is notorious for no subtitles at all, unfortunately.

Oh and Pysch the first series was on DVD without subtitles. So I went and bought it in NYC where the USA are very good with closed captioning.

"You should have said, "Yes! I read them with my ears!""

That made me giggle too! I can't believe people still make DVDs without subs. I use them myself on TV and DVDs, either when Rich is making a racket while I'm watching something, or sometimes I just find it easier to focus on stuff when I have the subs on, so it's more than just deaf people use them!

Grrr. People lack the capacity to step outside of themselves and understand what motivates others. Like for example, Im presuming that what motivates this guy is ignorance and the strong desire to come off like a douchebag.

Yeah, I've already moved on as the company informed me that they're going to caption their second batch of DVDs, so I thanked them for the info in a new comment on their page.

This was my original comment which Shawn is replying to, "Disappointed that the DVD doesn't have closed captioning, you've lost a buyer."

No rudeness, no ranting. I just stated a fact which is true confirmed by their information on the dvd's release, and maybe I could have done it more politely but, ehhh.
Anyway, they're putting them on the next batch of DVDs which is good for a independent company to do!
