So it turns out that I have an interesting choice before me: go back to my old group, or take the offer of a 3-month paid job search

My opinion (worth what you're paying for it =) ): take the vacation. You'll find something in the three months.

Of course, that's easy to say when I'm not the one taking the risk =)

Thanks, Lee, for your support. As you can see, I decided to take the risk. I already have an interview being scheduled, and some other interesting prospects on the horizon. :)
