Miss Universe (no, I'm not competing)

Has anyone seen the Miss Universe contestants' costumes this year? Did anyone know that the Miss Universe pageant still exists? I didn't.

Anyway, I'm torn between Miss Honduras, Miss Brazil and Miss Nicaragua as being the most insane. And you know what? I'm proud to be an American right now, because Miss USA is dressed as a f-king Transformer. ( Read more... )

Haven't watched the pageant in ages, but knew it still existed. Dear Lord, those costumes could cause you to go blind if you looked at them too long. They make a good case for nudity.

I noticed most of the women were wearing platform shoes--an old, old trick of May West's to make her appear slimmer and more statuesque. She was only 5' tall.

Oh, the platform pump is all the rage -- I see non-Miss Universe women wearing them. And they're ugly as sin (the shoes).

I didn't know May West was that tiny! So I guess her footwear worked.

Wow, that was... really something else. Is this a new component to the pageant? I feel like I would have heard of such hideous/hilarious get-ups if it had been part of previous years'...

No, apparently they do it every year! I feel bad for Miss France. They just stuck a sad little Eiffel Tower on her head and called it a day. Budget cutbacks?

Is this costume thing new, or have I been missing this all these years? Because...wow. Way to take a gaggle of pretty girls and make them painful to look at.

The transformer costume is perfect. Love it!

Apparently, they do it every year. I really do love that whacked-out Transformer costume -- though Transformers actually originated in Japan, so ... Way to appropriate, USA! :)
