Arrrggghhhh!

So my laptop dropped dead this morning, and I ended up having to buy a new one. It's OK, I told myself, you want the MacBook Air anyway. But it's been a while since I backed up my files, and I lost all the work I'd done on an article due tomorrow. Ahahahahaha ( Read more... )

Oh noes - I am crying for your lappie too :(

Can you pull the hard drive out of the defunct laptop, or is that dead too?

The hard drive is dead. I could pay $600 to have the data retrieved -- but lol, no.

Luckily, most of my stuff was backed up to an external drive. But I haven't updated in the past week or so -- so I lost my current work assignment and the fic. It was brilliant, I tell you, brilliant! I think I have enough of it in my mind that I can start over, but ... UGH.

I tried to repair a dead hard drive once, cost me $30 for a part and the hard drive is still dead :)

There's something soul destroying about having to redo work you've already done because you lost it - been there. And I'm sure the fic was absolutely brilliant :) and will be again - after you get the pesky work out of the way.

OhnoOhnoOhnoooooo! The thought of a computer crash (especially in the middle of a story) causes me to break into a cold sweat. And redos of any kind are the worst. I found the only good that comes of it is that the rewrite is better.

You know all of us sick!Wilson fans are wringing our hands right now. Good luck hon.

Your icon is a perfect representation of my reaction this morning.

It's not that bad. I already finished re-writing my work stuff, because my interview notes are all still in front of me. And I'm sure I can re-write that fic -- which, BTW, was partly inspired by the question you raised on what House thinks of Wilson's looks ;)

Glad to hear you got work out of the way.

*happy dance* Oh, you shouldn't have told me. I can't wait!

This is one advantage of my "system" (if you can call it that) of drafting all my stories on DW/LJ. Even if one site goes down, I've got it crossposted. But I have felt the pain you feel, because I've been in the middle of a huge chapter when LJ's head imploded and instead of "save edits" it just ... sent everything to oblivion.

I may have cried.

You must've accidentally clicked LJ's 'obliterate' button, located ludicrously close to the 'save' button. I would've cried.

Gah!! This reminds me of when I was in High School. I did a piece of work for my Drama GCSE (handwritten as this was an age before typing coursework on computer!!)and handed it in to my teacher. A Few days later my teacher chases me up saying I haven't handed it in. Well argument between teacher and I ensued... I know he lost it as I know I gave it to him! Anyway-I had to rewrite the entire thing. As it turned out my second draft scored top marks and was way better than the first!

I look forward to your fic!! xxx
