My friend and I went to see "Selected Shorts" at the Brooklyn Academy of Music last night, with RSL hosting. Thought I'd share a bit, if you're interested.
As the person most distressed about his hair, I'm thrilled to hear your report. lol. I keep meaning to go to Selected shorts when they do them here in LA. Hopefully, RSL will host them next year. Thanks for the bird's eye view!
Thank you for sharing that experience with us! What a lovely report of what seems like a wonderful event. Excuse me...just gotta swoon over RSL some more and dive into your words again...:D
Thank you for such a detailed report. It's so much better than just reading a review, you know what we want to hear. I absolutely love listening to RSLs voice it's so expressive. Your post has fired me up for the Barbican, as if I needed it, but so glad you enjoyed your night.
The program didn't list the stories and authors???? To me that kind of defeats the purpose, even if you did get to enjoy a yummy evening with RSL.
I'm glad that he acted out his story instead of just reading it. I have an audiobook in which he reads Bridge to Terebithia, and it's so good! I just wish that he would read more books that I actually like.
And thanks for alleviating any concerns I might have had about the state of the hair, lol.

I know! The program was mostly ads. How much room could it have taken to write the author's name and the name of the story? I'm wondering if they made the final decisions on which stories to do almost last-minute.
2) What were the stories he told about Parker Posey, Mare Winningham's daughter and clothes shopping if you can remember?
It was one story. He said that years ago when he was living in NYC, he met MW and her daughter (who was around 13 at the time) at a cafe, and they were supposed to hang out for the afternoon. He asked the daughter what she wanted to do, and she said, "I want to go vintage-clothes shopping." And RSL was like, "Oh god, the one thing in New York that I know absolutely nothing about."
So he asked the daughter what her dream shopping scenario was. And she said, "To go vintage shopping with Parker Posey." So RSL whipped out his cell phone, called PP, and the daughter got her dream.
