Last week Abby, Melissa and I went to San Antonio for the annual ASCT meeting. The city was so beautiful. I guess I'll explain the trip through my pictures. Enjoy.
The plane ride there was bumpy. Ugh. Pretty sky though.
They served us raisin bran. We picked out the raisins. haha.
Seriously. Half asleep. Our plane left at 6 am. We were up and in the car at 3am.
haha. Always Melissa with the embarrassing photos.
This was our hotel room. Pretty fancy huh? We stayed at the St. Anthony Wyndham.. I believe it is marketed as the oldest hotel in San Antonio. Lyndon Johnson was married there when they were running a special; get married at the church across the street and stay in the hotel they will rent your room every year on that date for the rate you originally paid. Apparently you learn a lot of junk listening to taxi drivers try to distract you while they take extra turns..
Whatever. Here's that church across the street.. haha. OH! So I have this complex about walking without holding hands.. so the entire time I was walking around the city, Abby and I held hands.. which created quite a buzz. So we started playing it up when people were gawking. One night we even had a lovers quarrel.. none the less.. this church had a sign out front that read something about accepting everyone regardless.. and I said to Abby, "see this church takes people like us..". Guess you had to be there.. Carry on...
Elevator buttons. I like them.. I don't know why I just think elevators are awesome.
The alley next to our hotel. We passed it everyday.. I just thought it was cool.
Trees in the park at the front of the hotel. It was amazing to see trees full of leaves!
Airplane hair. Trying to take a funny picture with the cactus. Meh.
So we're walking down the street bitching about how these people were just "STANDING IN THE STREET!!" And Melissa turns to us and says, "is this like, the Alamo or something" and lo and behold.. it's the damn Alamo. Haha. So I said the entire trip, "ya we casually strolled by the Alamo, oblivious..".
More Alamo..
Same..
This was a tree in the middle of it. I guess some guy proved that you can move trees from their original location and moved this one to the Alamo. Ta da I guess..
Tree part 2
Floor plans to the Alamo
So the entire lively part of the city was on the "River Walk". It was the San Antonio river that went through all of downtown. It ran under the street level and was where all of the people generally were. All of the restaurants, bars and little shops were down there. Most of the businesses and hotels were at street level. It was beautiful.. the next few will be river walk pictures. I couldn't get enough of it. I literally left my heart on the river walk.
We ate at this restaurant, Casa de Rio. Mexican food.. mmm..
Can't walk and take photos.. apparently.
She was a "hoe of San Antonio".. I noticed that many women dress like complete skanks down there.. so I started photographing them. haha. I have about a 20 picture collection of hoes. I will have to post those later.. Notice the little tour boat on the river.
Stairs to get down to the river walk. All of the entry stairs were very old. The were all uneven and complicated to walk down.. but they were beautiful so I guess I understand why they haven't replaced them.
This is how their sewer system looks. This is actually water from the street. Amazing how clean that city is that they can do this. One night it rained when me and Melissa were walking home, this was flooding over onto the riverwalk and it was an adventure trying to get around it.
Every now and then there would be a break in the river walk where you could sit down.. and there were always beautiful tile mosaics.
Melissa's friend Erin came down one night. She was adorable..
The river walk at night is softly lit. Ambiance folks, ambiance.
The river would get all foggy.. It was like a dreamland down there. Nigh time was lonely single in San Antonio..
We saw two families of ducks there. I love the little ones.. they swim so dopey.
Daddy duck.
Paesanos. The best restaurant down there. Oh my. We ate there twice. Amazing to say the least.
My photographing skills.
"Sky rats" Melissa called them. These birds are worse then the ones at Wayne State. They aren't afraid of ANYTHING.
Bar night with Melissa. We ended up running into Michael who was at a jazz club. Nice place.. but it started pouring so we booked it home.
Tried to capture the rain.. the raindrops were huge.. but no such luck. My flat hair got frizzy for the first time in my life down in Texas. Guess all things ARE bigger in Texas. But seriously, holy humidity. Like a rain forest.
Cheesing.
Ok so the real reason why we were down there was for the American Society of Cytotechnologists annual meeting.. Which we actually went to believe it or not. This was a picture from the way back from the conference hotel.. Ours was a block down Navarro.. so not a far walk.
These were the tree decorations for Fiesta Week which was currently underway in San Antonio. Our conference hotel decorated accordingly.
Every morning ASCT offered free breakfast if you came down an hour early and chatted with the exhibitors. We came the last 15 minutes when the room was already full, grabbed breakfast and booked it to this little bench at the end of a hallway. We were over talking to exhibitors. haha.
Thats all I have for ASCT photos. Just a bunch of classes, nothing to get camera happy over..
I actually bought one of these headpieces. EVERYONE was wearing them and me and Melissa had to cash in.
This shirt was the "Melissa Reject Shirt". At the mall, I brought at least a million shirts into the dressing room.. and Melissa brought like 2.. one of which was this flowered one. She put it on and made a horrible face.. I told her to throw it over and let me try it. Out of my million shirts, this was the only one I bought.. the Melissa reject shirt.. haha.
Trolley car. Loved them.
The night Erin came into town we walked the river walk and ended up at Starbucks. I seriously think we drank wayy to much coffee..
Seriously, seriously.
haha. Melissa is going to kill me. I honestly have no idea why she's still my friend after all of these funny pictures I plaster all over the internet..
I had to buy one.. you have to.. it's like an unwritten law. This was on the way home in the San Antonio Airport.
We had a layover both ways in Huston. This window went up maybe three stories. I thought it was amazing.
"Opps accident.. put your feet in.. I'll take one with all three"
"Now do hands..."
"Ok this is lame.. nevermind.." haha.
Abby as a Mexican at siesta.. Ya I set this photo up.. couldn't resist it.
The creepiest tunnel at Detroit Metro Airport. It played womb noises. I felt like I had to take a few hits of LSD to get the full effect.. otherwise.. creepy.
Well that's it homies. I'm ready to go back anytime. Any takers?
