Good ol' education system

So, way back in the spring I got a call from the counseling office of BCC, informing me to my chagrin that somewhere along the line, I had messed up and was missing a class or two for graduation. I either needed a science class (chemistry) for my AS, or an English class for my AAS. Woopie. It was my plan to attend BCC for one more quarter this ( Read more... )

Whaaaaaa....

So give us the whole story, man. Who screwed up, and when. That is to say, is the certificate real, or did you need actually need the additional class. Or, better yet, is it something like, the requirements were changed over the summer thereby causing you to now qualify for the degree.

I wrote about as much as I know. The certificate, for all intensive purposes, looks real, so I am assuming it is real. My guess is that someone fucked up, and they just silently slid me my diploma hoping I wouldn't make a big deal. At the same time, I'd rather not take issue, because in the event that there was a mixup, I'd be concerned they could/would 'revoke' my diploma (can they even do that?).

The point is, I'm not really sure what happened, why it happened, or what I'm going to do because of it. Sort of bittersweet news; I got my diploma, but now I have to twiddle my thumbs for a quarter.

Yeah, according to my mom who works there, BCC can get a little confused. She's in publications, not grading, but the stories she can tell....

Anyway, regardless of how you got it, congrats! One more degree than I've got.

I'd definitely call 'em and ask if I were you. If it's real, you're wasting your time this next quarter, might as well just go earn more money working. On the other hand, if it's not real, what's the worst they can do, tell you they screwed up and can have it back after fall quarter, which is what you expected to happen all along. This strikes me as one of those things that's too important to just let slide and hope it works out. Anyway, if you try to transfer, it's them thinking you have a diploma that's important, not the actual piece of paper.
