I recall reading years ago that he wanted to do another queer men themed show -- tentatively titled "MGM" (more gay men) that would focus on middle-aged men. this may be it.

Also, frankly, QaF did more than most rights campaigns for normalizing the existence of gay men in the general culture, so don't knock it.

In QAF, he had the central character get high on drugs and anally penetrate an inexperienced 15-year-old, whilst all his friends did was roll their eyes and make clever remarks.

It's the truth, though. Pushing things to the extreme doesn't mean "normalizing" the existence of gay men.

I doubt it makes wonders to gay men being perceived any different from the already stereotyped vision the general public have of them, when the media keeps repeating the notion that gay men do drugs, are aggressive sexual predators who shag underage boys or simply unassuming and quiet co-workers while jumping from one night stand to the next easy f*ck.

At least in the US version they had Justin being 16yo.

Justin was 17 in the US version, if I remember correctly. I won't say I loooved the US version, but I was sufficiently interested to watch 3 seasons, and they did make an effort to explore issues, instead of throwing something out there just for cheap titillation and shock (like the friend dying of a drug overdose).

A TV series may have a very good impact, but it can still be shite.
Besides, I give more credit to the US version of QAF -- safe sex was emphasized, the inexperienced boy was a little older, the story arcs were more detailed and lots of issues were discussed. Russ had minimal involvement in the writing for US QAF. What he wrote was Stuart and Vince whooping and laughing in the car on their way to their friend's funeral. That's some great gay rights campaigning!
