Going to attend a Steam Punk Themed Birthday party. Anyone have any useful reference links or materials? I haven't gotten my geek on for over three years, and I want successful execution.
I'm on this. Off the top of my head, I might suggest rolling around girlgeniusonline.com which is a webcomic that's been running for some time that is whoa nelly steampunk. Additionally, do a search on Etsy for steampunk, it's bound to pull up bits and bobs of inspiration. On the other end of things, look up Victorian and Edwardian costuming resources ( http://www.costumes.org/history/100pages/victlinks.htm ). Those will give you the foundational garments on which to build your character. And character is what will make your outfit. Are you a plucky young girl run away from home to seek adventures on an airship? Hike up those skirts to your bloomers, have pilot's goggles and toolbelt. Are you a lady of leisure? Drape yourself in as many tiny gears for jewelry as possible, and wear a hat.
