Two eminently stupid statements about metal bands that baffle me so much that I wonder if people just downloaded incorrectly labelled mp3s ( Read more... )

Mine too, I think! I could almost make a list like that. It would probably look a bit like this:

Darkthrone
Mercyful Fate
Manilla Road
Brocas Helm
Root

But you know that at least two of those would always be changing.Man, it's far too hard .. forget the list! hahah

Brocas helm are excellent. You're probably getting a bit over-exuberant if you're saying they're as good as Maiden, but still a quality band.

Regarding Darkthrone... well, if you don't like Darkthrone there's something deeply wrong with you. I'm guessing they've just heard Transilvanian Hunger? I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here...

haha, well, I am always exuberant about the Helm, but I didn't actually say they were better than Maiden objectively, just that their bassists were in the same league. I do probably like them more than Maiden though, as the only maiden I really love is the DIAnno era (don't get me wrong, I still respect them and would still go see them in February if I could afford a ticket).

I don't know what Darkthrone albums she's heard, but the thing is I've always thought they had a really clear and well-defined bass tone, even on "Transilvanian Hunger". I think she was talking about the bass as an instrument rather than the frequencies of the bass range, and Nocturno Culto has always played a really clean bass that you can easily follow .. I think it grounds their music perfectly and you'd very much feel its absence if it wasn't there. And we dont' have to talk about how good Dag Nilsen was!
