So, my iPod suddenly died on me on the way back from college. The entire thing is screwed, I've tried every single possible solution given to me by Apple numerous times, and it looks like my only option is to return it for "repair" (read: throw it in the bin and get a new one). However, this will cost me £170, on something I only paid just over £200 for brand new.
Does anyone know of any possible way I'm going to be able to get this fixed for less than that, and/or any way i can recover my files? If there's some kind of technician out there who knows his arse from his elbow, unlike the employees of Apple, that would be great.

Otherwise I'll just have to upgrade to the iPod video and resign myself to the fact that my £200+ piece of hardware has become little more than a fancy paperweight, after LESS THAN TWO YEARS...
