Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal (1957, original swedish title Det sjunde inseglet) is one of those classics that exemplify the existential state of man that has and always will plague us. of course, i'm hardly a critic, expert, or even a pundit. i didn't even know about the existence of this film until preet recommended it to me. ah! phil has this movie! it's been on my list to watch for a while. meanwhile, i just saw wong kar wai's in the mood for love (not strictly a love story) which is set in 1950's china and f*cking gorgeous.

eeeee! i bought in the mood for love on original dvd (which is saying a lot for a filipina who openly loves piracy, mind you...)

i watched it about a year ago, but it's scenes are still very, very fresh in my mind. one of my favorite sequences was how they presented the two consciously opened themselves to the affair: was it his rough and masculine ways that forced his affections on her? or was it her smooth and womanly wiles that did him in?

of course, that was just one of many many beautiful scenes. i actually couldn't watch it one sitting, it was just too pretty and too amazing for my small little brain.

basta, putang ina, ang ganda ng in the mood for love!

i love how death is protrayed this way in movies. and the dialogue seems smart, but not too smart. almost funny but not intending to be. (kasi nga smart)

yes! anthropomorphic visualizations of death have always made me happy :D
