I would take it easy what you can and work on what you need to get done first which is school.
For after school, I'd talk with Craig about what plans are. It will not hurt you to try for the JET program and you don't really need to know where you will be living to try it but do know that Craig will not see much of you while you are there for 2years or more? So it would be best to talk to him about that also. But at least Sam tried to get into JET and she's not out yet.
It can get quite hectic but just take it as they come and try to prepare the best you can.
All of my friends I studied abroad with are in JET now, and they say it's more paperwork than anything, but they are loving it.
A lot of programs are strict about you bringing your partners with you to Japan, so you should see their policy on that.
I have a job interview with GEOS, a private language school, in July, and their policy is you can bring your partner, but don't expect the company to pay for anything for them.
Whatever you do, apply early and learn how to make a resume, because the career services people at MUC told me mine is shit.

If you and Craig do decide to go to Japan it would be easy for him to get a job at a local eikaiwa or something.
