Of One Wing Missing (Chapter 3)
Nino is wondering. Why can’t he be friend with Ohno. Ohno being cold and ignoring him all the time, he feels rejected and hated. He has asked Sho-kun about how to be friend with Ohno-san. Sho-kun said, Ohno has always been kind and friendly to the people who worked with him, even if he is a lonely person and doesn’t like to socialize much. But, he doesn’t behave with Nino. Does he hate me? But Why??
Nino remembers about today..
As usual, he picked up Ohno this morning. Now Nino has Ohno’s apartment key (Sho-kun gave it to him, to be sure Nino can get into Ohno’ s apartment any time, even if Ohno is passed out, drunk and can’t open the door to him). Nino woke Ohno up, noticing he was still wearing the same outfit than the day before and dragged him to the bathroom. He didn’t receive any kind of response while doing so, but Ohno was still sleepy, he had reasoned.
When Ohno came out from his bathroom, Nino had already prepared the bag that contained all of Ohno’s stuff for the shooting of his new dorama. Ohno frozed when he looked at him, as if he was a dream, and then he rubed his eyes making sure he was not dreaming. He kept looking at him. Stunned. And Nino felt awkward at being stared like that…
“Ee,, what it is Ohno-san? Anything I can help you with?” Nino asked , confused. He stared at Ohno’s wet body, the towel covering only his lower part. He has wonderful abs and wonderful arm muscles. Hei,, What am I thinking?
Nino cursed himself for admiring Ohno’s body.
Ohno looked shocked at Nino’s question and woke up from his daydreaming, realizing that Nino was in his bedroom.
“How many times do I have to tell you to not enter my room?” He asked angry.
“But, Ohno-san. I have to prepare all your stuff for the shooting today..” Nino tried to justify himself. He didn’t understand why Ohno was always angry when he entered his room. They are both men, no need to feel ashamed in front of each other right?
Ohno sighed. Looked like he had just realized what Nino Job was. He took his clothes and came back to the bathroom, slamming the door. He wouldn’t and will never change his clothes in front of Nino. He would probably faint, blushing full red.
Nino could understand if Ohno didn’t want to change his clothes in front of him. But, he shouldn’t be angry, right?
After they got inside the car, Nino tried to talk to him cheerfully, as usual. He told funny stories, trying to rise up the atmosphere between them. Ohno was still silent, and didn’t participate to the conversation, lost in his own mind. Maybe he didn’t even notice my existence.
But Nino didn’t give up, he kept talking, even if it was a monologue.
During a break of the shooting, Nino immediately took the towel and wiped Ohno’s sweat, fanning him with an uchiwa and giving him mineral water.But, Ohno glared at him when he wiped his sweat along his face and neck..
“I can do it by myself!” He said, grabbing the towel in Nino’s hand. Nino shrugged, surrendering to Ohno’s cold behaviour. Ohno never let him touch his body.
He kept behaving like that all day. Ignoring Nino. Nino tried his best to not feel angry. Where is my fault? He thought sadly.
The end of the day with Ohno was the same as morning. He drove him home. Parked the car. Took care of Ohno’s stuff and left in his bedroom, without greeting “Good night”, without saying “Thanks for you hard work”, without a “Bye”, even without a smile. Nino sighed. Ohno-san is a very difficult person. He is really sad, hoping he could build a good relationship with Ohno, so, he could enjoy his work.

And today is Sunday. It’s Ohno day off. So, Nino doesn’t have to work (Sho-kun said he can get a day off if Ohno get a day off, too). Nino is preparing bento, he will go to the hospital. Today is Masami’s birthday. He made 2 set bento hoping there would be a miracle, that Masami will be conscious again, will get out of coma and she would eat the bento that he made and they would talk and laugh together. He just hopes…
And it’s only a hope. Because Masami is still lying in her bed, showing no sign of going out of the coma. She looks so pale. Very gaunt cheeks, very dry lips, very thin body. Nino wants to cry every time he looks at her. He holds her hands, hoping she can feel what he feels.
“Please open your eyes for me” He sobs beside her bed. He feels a big hole in his heart. He knows Masami will leave him someday. He realizes that. He already knows that Masami has had cancer since their childhood. When he married her, he knew the consequences, that Masami would leave him someday…Someday,.But not today..hun. I still need you here. He thinks sadly.
The doctor said Masami have the opportunity to get a brain surgery. The surgery will be held in 2 weeks. But, the change for success is very small.
“Don’t leave me like this, hun” He says, tears running over his cheeks.
Nino leaves the hospital with heavy steps, carrying 2 set of bento. He can’t manage what is happening in his mind.
Nino decides to clear his mind at his favorite park, near the hospital. His favorite spot is under the big tree. He can sit there while looking at the view of the river. But, someone is already there. Lying under the tree, his face covered with a hat. It looks like that this guy is sleeping. Nino feels disappointed, cause he must share his favorite spot with someone else. But he sits besides that guy.
He opens his bento, eating slowly, remembering the night before Masami fainted and fell into coma.
“Kazu, promise me. You won’t cry if I die. You will found someone that you love and you will be happy” Masami said to him when they were lying, staring at the ceiling on their bed. Nino looked at her. He frowned, feeling the fear in his heart. Masami had said those words many times. Always forcing Nino to promise to her.
“Don’t say that. I’m not ready to lose you” Nino said, holding his hand.
“No. I will leave you someday. You know that. You have to promise me. Please”. Masami begged him
“Why you force me to promise that stupid thing? You will never leave me” Nino said, frustrated.
“This time please promise me..Please. Just tonight” She begged him again
Nino sighed.
“Okay. If it will make you sleep peacefully..I promise not to cry when..when you die. Happy?” Nino asked her with a smile.
“and you will found someone that you love and you will be happy” She begged Nino to continue the promise.
“But I love you” He argued.
“No. You don’t. It just me who love you so much” She smiled with a bitter smile
“Don’t say that thing again. OK? I am your husband now and I must love you”
“You must but you don’t” She said again
“But it doesn’t matter as long as I’m happy living with you” Nino gave her smile, caressing her hair.
“You haven’t completed your promise” She pouted, looking at Nino. Her eyes begged him to say the promise. Nino sighed. He didn’t want to lose Masami. She had accompanied his life since they were children. She was his best friend, his partner. He couldn’t imagine his life without her. But, tonight Masami was very demanding.
“OK. I’m Ninomiya Kazunari, I promise to Ninomiya Masami, I won’t cry If she..If she dies, and I will found someone that I will love and I will live happy Ever after. Happy now?” Nino asked her.
“Yes. I’m really happy” Masami gave him a peaceful smile and she fell asleep in Nino’s arms.
Next morning, She fainted and never got conscious until now. Nino feels a bitter taste in his throat. He just wants to cry when he realizes that the guy besides him has awaken, and is now rubbing his eyes and looking at Nino..
“Ohno-san? What are you doing here?” Nino asks in surprise.

Ohno didn’t expect to see Nino when he woke up. He thinks it is a dream. But Nino’s voice makes him conscious.
“You again? Why are you always around me?” He asks, irritated.
“It’s not my fault, Ohno-san. You take my favorite place” Nino chuckles, amused by Ohno’s pissed off words.
Ohno looks at Nino’s bento. He suddenly feels hungry. Nino catches his gaze.
“You want to eat? I have another one” Nino offers.
“No. I am not hungry” He says. But, his uncooperative stomach betrays him by making noises.
Nino chuckles again. He gives the bento box to Ohno. Ohno accepts it half-heartedly. He eats slowly, realizing that the bento is so delicious..
“Ah, Umai” He says involuntarily..
“Thanks” Nino laughs to him. He feels relaxed. Ohno seems to look more cooperative and friendly today. He hopes he can be friend with Ohno.
“Why are you here, Ohno-san?” Nino asked again
“I just went for a walk and found this peaceful place to sleep.” He murmurs.
“Why you didn’t sleep at your home?”
“Because I would receive dozens of calls asking when I'll finish my painting”
Nino knows Ohno-san is an artist. He had held an exhibition before.
“and why are you here?” Ohno asks to Nino
“Oh. This is my wife’s birthday. I just want to celebrate at our favorite place” He answers with a smile
“A couple’s favorite place is in a park?” Ohno asks
“Yes, If you are not a celebrity, Ohno-san” Nino chuckles a little.
Ohno doesn’t ask anything again. He just enjoys his food. They eat silently until Nino asks
“Ohno-san. Have you ever been in Love with someone?”
Ohno almost chokes at Nino’s question.
“Wh-why you ask that?”
“I just want to know”
“Yes. Of course I did” Ohno answers. To you
“When did you decide that you had fallen in love” Nino asks again
“Huh?” Ohno doesn’t know what to say
“You know. My wife said, when we fall in love, we will feel the world is spinning around us and we will feel as the happiest person in the world” Nino explains to him.
Ohno just frowns. What is he trying to say? Making me more jealous of his wife?
“Where will you find your love, Ohno-san?” Nino asks again. Without waiting Ohno’s answer, he continues:
“My wife said, It's in a place you've never been, that feels like home. That’s where you find love”
Ohno tries to manage his jealousy towards Nino’s wife who said those beautiful words. He wishes he is the one Nino would fall in love with, the one place where Nino could find Love. But it seems impossible. Nino’s wife has taken his heart completely. If not, he wouldn’t see this sad look in Nino’s eyes.
Nino is looking at the river’s view..lost in his mind. Ohno is still looking at him. His heart hurts at seeing Nino so sad.
“How is the condition of your wife” Ohno asks, trying to show some sympathy
“Not good. She is not yet conscious and I don’t know when she will” Nino says sadly.
“I hope your wife will get well, soon” Ohno says with a flat tone. He doesn’t like to see Nino being sad. If he was allowed to choose, he would prefer the cheerful Nino with his monologues.
“Thank you, Ohno-san” Nino gives him a beautiful smile.
Ohno is grateful he found this place. He can enjoy the day with Ninomiya besides him, talking and eating together.
I wish time could stop right now
Nino feels comfortable with Ohno besides him. He feels like he has known Ohno for years, whereas they just met. Talking with Ohno makes Nino forget his problem for a moment.
Ohno-san is not a difficult person. He though. He doesn’t know why, but he feels restful.
