Catching up with old friends

Yesterday I had lunch with my friend Patrick, in Berkeley, where we got our undergrad degrees at the same time (in the same department) without knowing each other. I hadn't seen him for probably a year. He gets more handsome every time we meet! We had an enjoyable Japanese bento lunch and walked back up to campus together. maybe i'm just cynical, but with a lot of old acquaintances, i often thing those questions in my head and then answer them (in my head) in the same breath: "they probably never really stop and think about what motivates or exhilarates them... they're just blindly going through the motions." haha sounds much more mean/cynical to type it out than in my head, buuut i can't help but think that most people don't actually spend that much time on introspection.

Yes, that's the other thing too -- how many of us even could answer those questions if asked directly? We all just go through the motions in our daily lives, some of us less blindly than others, but I'm really realizing this week (as I attempt to scale back my activities to fit my true priorities) just how in denial I am about certain aspects of life too. It's a giant learning process!
