Computer technicians are mostly just making stuff up. My husband is a technical advisor for a couple of companies and he has giving up taking our computers in because they usually can't figure out what is wrong and he ends up doing it himself. He doesn't have the time but incompetence really frustrates him and that thought wins out. Don't let them give you any crap.
I'm not very tolerant of incompetence either. But when it's under warranty I let them do it, otherwise we usually do it ourselves. But give them their due, the Datacom guys don't typically give you any crap, and the delay on the last laptop holiday was Acer deciding not to bother shipping any parts for 3 months.
