Голенький Дима Билан Heh, it's been a while since I did a tutorial! And today's subject is the lovely Abarai Renji from Bleach
We will be going from this:
to this:
This tutorial was made in Photoshop CS2 - so, I'm not too sure if it's translatable to other graphics programs... gomen.
Bleach Icon Tutorial
Step 1. Prep your base! Copy (or drag) Renji's image to a 100x100 icon base and resize to your liking. Create a layer mask and carefully erase the background leaving the area around Renji transparent. This might take some time, so be patient - it will be worth it. Apply the mask to the image and duplicate, set to soft light 80% and sharpen.
Step 2. Create a new transparent layer behind the base layer (where Renji is) and fill with a pattern of your choosing. I used one that I found on deviantART - which can be found here:
Textured Stripes- 6 patterns. Leave the opacity of the layer as it is.
Step 3.Create a new selective color layer (layer> New Adjustment Layer> Selective color) and use the following settings:
Reds:
Cyan: -100%
Yellow: +100%
Yellows:
Cyan: -35%
Cyans:
Cyan: 100%
Whites:
Cyan: -35%
Neutrals:
Cyan: -60%
Magenta: -25%
Yellow: -40%
Step 4. Create a hue/saturation layer and change the saturation to +10% or to your taste.
Step 5. Create a new layer beneath the base layer (where Renji is) and choose a nice looking lensflare image to put there - I chose this one:
by
hellodarling and set the layer to screen. Feel free to move the flare to suit your taste.
Step 6. Create another selective color layer at the top of the other layers (layer> New Adjustment Layer> Selective color) and use the following settings:
Reds:
Yellow: -40%
Yellows:
Cyan: -100%
Yellow: +20%
Cyans:
Cyan: +100
Yellow: -100%
Blues:
Cyan: +100%
Whites:
Cyan: -100%
Magenta: -20%
Yellow: +65%
Step 7: Create a hue/saturation layer and change the saturation to +15% or to your taste.
Step 8: Create another selective color layer (layer> New Adjustment Layer> Selective color) and use the following settings:
Reds:
Yellow: -10%
Black -10%
Yellows:
Yellow: -25%
Neutrals:
Cyan: +100%
Step 9. Create a hue/saturation layer and change the saturation to +15% or duplicate step 7 and move to the top of the layers window - whichever is easier!
Step 10. Create a brightness/contrast layer (this should be at the top of the layers window) and set the following:
Brightness: -5
Contrast: +5
Step 11. Create a new layer at the top of the layers window, and select the layer (so that the dashes appear around the sides). Now, right click the image and select "stroke". Set the stroke to 1px and click ok. Now, in the layers window right click on the same layer and select "blending options" and choose pattern overlay. Now, choose a pattern that will give you a "dashed look" again deviantART offers tons of these!
Step 12. Create a new text layer beneath the base layer and type "Abarai". I chose Carpenter ICG and set the size to 18. Give the text layer a stroke of 2px to make it stand out. Here's what I got at the end of it:
and your layers window should look like this:
and that, as they say, is that!
Please remember that this is a just a tutorial, so make sure that you experiment with all the steps. And also, show me your creations! I'd love to see what you guys come up with using this tutorial!
