I found your LJ by using the "Find Users -- Random" feature. I'm curious... what job did you get that you dislike so much?
...and not many people are morning people, so I sympathize. You either get used to it and start going to bed earlier, or you don't and end up sleep-deprived every day. I've done it both ways. As it starts getting lighter later, it becomes a lot harder to get up! Otherwise, I might still take the early morning conference calls from my desk instead of from home in my pajamas.

Sure, you can ask. I work for a sufficiently large computer electronics company that rivals Intel in all markets. I spend my day meeting with Linux software companies, coordinating comarketing plans, creating slides for the sales force to use, and lots of misc. stuff.
Traveling to these partners' offices is a nice perk; I'm off to Germany again in about two weeks. ...and I get to keep all the frequent flier miles I earn, so that means I can cash in my miles for free travel on vacations.
Not all fun & games, though. I have a lot of responsibilities, which means I often have high-level execs criticizing what I do. I probably spend about half my day explaining what I've done and why, a little less than half actually doing new work, and the remaining 10% doing odds & ends like fixing my own computer and keeping up-to-date on the latest industry news. Kind of like the movie "Office Space" if you've seen it.
