I'm not sure why some women are attracted to abusive, trashy, over-controlling men. Is it the need for a dominating figure in their lives to tell them what to do? Do these women believe that women are to take care of the man, and if the man isn't happy, they didn't do their job as a women? My dad beat my mom for years. They were both drunks, and obviously none-too-bright. Frankly I think it was their addictive personalities--they each needed each other just as much as the other did, despite putting each other through hell. This may be the reason that I'm desperately independent and will never marry/have children.

Trust me, in the shelter EVERYONE has an excuse "He really loves me" "He only hits me when he drinks" "But I can't pay the bills without him" WHATEVER. They all have an excuse, it's just the way it is. There's no logic, there's no reason, and you can't make them snap out of it and see what's really going on. Either they'll figure it out & get help, they'll perpetuate the cycle, or they'll die.
