I just saw this post and wanted to say thank you, especially for this part:

And fanfiction - fanfiction was/is different to regular fiction. Thinking about the predominently female nature of fandom as a whole, and how fanfiction works - fanfiction is far more emotion-centric than much 'regular' fiction... we skip straight to development and extension of personalities, creating highly complex characters, probing emotions and psychological mindsets...Fanfiction is emotional overload. Its like crack to an emotional junkie, because it is so intense in so little space and so little plot - there has been fanfiction that has left me stuggling to breathe from the slow, torturous heaviness of it - Our emotional attachment to the characters is already there, rather than needing to be built from scratch - authors can simply jump straight in and break our hearts slowly and agonisingly painfully and we will let them, rather than getting bored, because we are already so heavily invested.I'm currently struggling a little with a Glee fic and keep ( ... )
