10 Totally Arbitrary Party Songs for Halloween

Top 10 lists suck. No matter how educated you are about meaningless pop culture, the arbitrary subjugation of a vast subject to an even more arbitrary rank is fairly stupid.

And yet, damn our souls, we find ourselves drawn like starving flies to read, and sometimes even to make, such lists. Is there some atavistic reflex involved? Simple curiosity ( Read more... )

OK, you got two of my faves, plus some classics... (Listening to the Bach now... couldn't remember if it was the one I thought it was or not; of course, it is, and somebody is playing the HELL out of that organ!)

And sure, it's arbitrary, so without impugning your list, lemme throw in a couple of my favorites: Night on Bald Mountain, made famous in the original Fantasia... and a whole damn album: The soundtrack to Lost Boys, my favorite vamp flick ever, for many reasons.... *edit* ooh, and one more. Closer. Sooj's "Labyrinth." with the candles waving down...

+1 on the Concrete Blonde, tho. That was *the* tune I was looking for when I saw you were making this thing... that thing is just an *anthem*.

"Labyrinth." Good call. Maybe for the end of evening, when the party's winding down. :)

I think the "Tocatta" cut is E. Power Biggs, but I'm not certain. I have his version on a CD somewhere, and the one on the video sounds very much like it.

This is him. I know he recorded a few versions. Awesome, ain't it?

I was at the last Oingo Boingo show. I don't know if it was worth your arm, but it was a damn, damn good time.

*cries for missing it*

Glad you got to see it. Seriously. I caught 'em a few times while they were still touring, and each show was magnificent. I've had the Farewell album since the week it came out, and bought the video on VHS as well. It looks to have been an incredible show.

I vote for "With Her Head Tucked Underneath Her Arm", but I'm biased; I perform it.
