Yep - there's a rash of abandoned properties here in the midwest (we're not nearly as bad as Cleveland, but there's still some going on); as a result, the local city gummint came up with a 'Land Bank'; i.e., abandoned homes are claimed by the city, who then turns around and sells them to approved buyers at a highly discounted price.
The thing is, most of these homes are in not-great areas, or areas with significant urban blight. The one that'll hopefully be ours is no exception, except that it's walking distance from three different colleges - thus, I'm planning on a residence subsidized by student housing.
I've got the cash for the investment (about 5k). I just need to see the property, make sure it's do-able, and get the approval.
If so, you're invited to the housewarming, of course. = )
