The Mondavi Center (MC) reports to the Offices of the Chancellor and Provost (OCP), which has overall responsibility for the leadership, management and administration of the campus. The Mondavi Center fosters excellence in the performing arts through the administration of a comprehensive, multicultural program of international artistry and distinguished speakers, a regional Arts Education program, and a facility--the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts--a regional resource that enhances the research, instruction, public service, and outreach mission of UC Davis. The Mondavi Center reaches 12,500 regional households to sell more than 100,000 annual tickets for ~140 performances. The annual operating budget is $8.8 million.
Responsibilities: This position provides flexible technical and production assistance for performance and non-performance events. Oversees on-site student staff and has oversight for work calls as directed.
Requirements: Experience and/or equivalent combination of related education and experience in technical theater or stage production. Demonstrated experience utilizing amplified sound systems, stage rigging and counterweight systems, and a demonstrated proficiency in stage lighting systems, including ETC Ethernet based environments. Ability to read and interpret stage drawings including blueprints, sketches, schematics, ground plans, and sections to construct accurately from these drawings; and to work with power tools, hand tools, and pneumatic equipment. Interpersonal and oral communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate in person, on the phone, and in writing; and to elicit information needed to clarify inquiries and requests. Professional skills to handle sensitive or difficult situations diplomatically and to work effectively and sensitively with constituents from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives. Organizational skills to manage the multiple details and tasks associated with executing a production; and to assume general assignments and follow through to successful completion. Experience leading a part-time stagehand pool of theater and non-theater student workers strongly preferred. Ability to promote a professional work environment. Knowledge of electricity, including but not limited to: safely loading electrical circuits and dimmers, identifying overloads and short circuits, recognizing and sometimes repairing defective equipment. Knowledge of changes in stage equipment technology and practices. Knowledge of state and federal OSHA standards. Special Conditions of Employment: Non smoking work environment. Restricted vacation during peak periods. Valid CA driver’s license required. Work flexible schedule. Work overtime (evenings, weekends, holidays) and varied lunch hours in response to production schedule. Physical Requirements: Position requires lifting up to 50 lbs. Ability to detect audio and visual problems with productions.
