Thanks for looking! I enjoy the serenity of it most of all - on a cool day with all the windows open it's a throwback to the past.

Haha, it was indeed in the Flickr comments. A shimenawa is a Japanese rope (with folded papers) woven around New Years to protect and bring good luck into a home.
