Grand Rapids, MI: Home Office + Hallway

Sep 04, 2012 12:54

Last week, I posted my bathroom. Today, I'm going to post my office. This room is 13' x 13' (or 15.5 meters squared).

First, some wider shots. The paint color is Martha Stewart "Orchid".

The rug came from Oaxaxa, MX when I visited there. The chair I found on ebay and picked up locally. Eventually I'd like to get it reupholstered - my kitties have not been kind to the original Naugahyde.

The large stainless steel cabinet is an old hospital blanket warmer that I found at a thrift store. It weighs about 500 pounds and I love it to death. Every time we move, my boyfriend gives that cabinet the evil eye.

Details:

This is the top of the stainless steel cabinet. The painting was done by a friend of mine and given to me for my birthday.

I JUST got this cabinet at an antique store. I've done some research, and I believe it dates to between 1880 and 1900. I LOVE it! It's the best thing I've purchased since the blanket warmer. Now I'm on the hunt for an appropriate small, light bookcase to replace the black ones since I just bought this cabinet yesterday.

The doors slide!

It still has the original hardware (although probably not the original key - wrong color).

My mom and grandmother, circa 1946.

Everyone needs a sock monkey! The door drawing I purchased in Zanzibar and the spiderwebs are from this guy.

Shells in the window came home with me from the Cayman Islands - legally, even!

The big birds over my desk.

Glass balls in the window. The yellow one, I got at an art and wine festival in CA; the orange came from Skansen in Stockholm.

And then, the hallway leading to my office:

The ENTIRE APARTMENT was painted this color when I moved in. Horrors. I'm from New York - can't let that long hallway space be wasted! It took a while with a stud finder to get those bookshelves mounted properly.

The other side of the hallway.

ETA: Seeing my bulletin board in these pictures made me change it to a framed print. (Apologies for the cell phone pic.)
