Lovely! It will suck to leave it behind. Please share how the cabinet restraining goes! I am thinking of trying it as well.

Thanks. I will try to document the staining. I originally tried the gel stain that has been floating around Pinterest, but it was a total pain. It really just coats like a paint rather than absorbing and it was impossible to get it to coat evenly in the little nooks and crannies. So I stripped it down and we are starting again with liquid stain instead.

Well, already you've been helpful because that was what I was going to try. :)

Just FYI, I went ahead and tried the gel stain anyway. It worked great for me, but my cabinets were flat front and there weren't really any nooks and crannies. I agree that it was more like painting than staining, but since I didn't want to sand everything, it was a good option for my project. I'm not sure that it's any different than if I had painted my cabinets dark brown thought.

That's gorgeous! What finishing si that one the walls? How well does it take to the damp in the bathroom?

It's latex paint in satin. I can't stand semi-gloss on anything other than trim work. It's working great so far.

Ooh! That's interesting - I didn't even know that was a thing. I'm starting a remodel now and I am looking into stuff for the kitchen walls (other than the backsplash).

You can definitely do satin in a kitchen. Benjamin Moore has a finish called "pearl" that's an eggshell specifically designed for kitchens/bathrooms.

I am a fan of that shower curtain (maybe the Kraken is taking the mermaid for their afternoon constitutional, explaining the totally unconcerned look on her face). Very cool.
