What do you read? Mainstream, genre, Young Adult?
If you want to use an umbrella term for what I read, I’d say fantasy. But I think that’s a pretty broad term for it. I mostly favour urban/dark fantasy, paranormal romance, YA fantasy, a little sci-fi, and I’m even starting to branch out into steampunk.
What do you never read?
I never say never to books, especially if they’ve been recommended to me, but I will say that the books I don’t usually go looking for are thrillers, straight fiction or Mills & Boons-type romances.
Morning reading, Afternoon reading or Nighttime reading?
I love reading, period. I can do anytime, anywhere.
Bed, Bath or Bus?
I prefer my bed because it means I can settle in there without moving anytime soon. The bath or the bus I can’t say the same for.
Hardback or Trade Paperback or Mass Market Paperback or eBook?
Paperbacks are good for on-the-go or in the bath, but I love the look and feel of a hardback book. Because I read a lot, however, eBooks work out cheaper for me.
Bookmark or Dogear?
I use bookmarks, personally, but I don’t mind people dogearring my books when they borrow them. I like a book that looks like it’s been well-read and enjoyed.
Alphabetize by author, title, or random?
I don’t really have an order to my bookshelf, except that all the series go together, obviously.
Keep, Throw Away, or Sell?
I keep my favourites but any books I know I’m not going to read again usually go to the charity shop.
Short story or novel?
I prefer novels but I do like anthologies, mostly because they introduce me to new authors without me having to waste piles of money on their novels.
Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
I usually do chapter breaks. But then if there’s a cliffhanger at the end, I find that I’ll probably continue regardless of if I’m tired.
Buy or Borrow?
Both.
Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation, or Browse?
All three. Usually I’ll browse and if I see something I like, I use reviews to see if it’s worth the buy. I do use review/rec blogs that I trust more often that not, though.
Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
I’m alright with both as long as either the tidy ending is satisfying or the cliffhanger isn’t too contrived.
Standalone or Series?
I prefer series because I tend to favour books where I’ve fallen in love with the characters and the world as well as the story. So I always want to read more of it.
Favourite book of which nobody else has heard?
Hmmm. I don’t think many on my flist have heard of Glenda Noramly’s Havenstar, but I could be wrong. I adore that book.
Top 3 favourite books read within the last few years?
Only three? Bloody hell. Erm. I’d have to say Karen Marie Moning’s Dreamfever, just for the cliffhanger alone. Meljean Brook’s The Iron Duke because it was my first venture into steampunk and it was amazing. I’d also have to say Nalini Singh’s Angel’s Kiss purely because, despite my problems with the second book, I did love the world-building and the characters and the rich background of the series.
Top 5 favourite books of all time?
I’ve decided series count as one book. Just because. In no particular order:
Anne Bishop’s The Black Jewels Trilogy
Karen Marie Moning’s Fever Series
L.J. Smith’s The Forbidden Game Trilogy
Glenda Noramly’s Havenstar
Vicki Pettersson’s Zodiac Series
