May/June Book Reviews

Jun 22, 2011 16:29

Book reviews are going to be short and sweet this month (I say this and then I end up rambling for pages upon pages). I spent most of the month re-reading Kim Harrison’s Hollow series, as 1) I love it and 2) I always forget some of the finer details that Harrison tends to loop back to in future instalments. After that, I finally managed to get ( Read more... )

Do you read different books each month and review about them, just for fun? I think that's pretty neat!

I think you should definitely write something for X-Men! Although I won't be joining the ficathon, there's been a little plot-bunny running around in my head concerning Erik and Raven. If you ever need help thinking of ideas or anything, just let me know! I'd be happy to help.

Not always every month, but I like to do review posts every now and again, yeah :)

I'm still thinking about it. I'm pretty limited in what I can write for that universe and there's nothing worse than trying to match people in ficathons that only write certain things!

I don't actually have any plot bunnies for Erik and Raven at the moment, which is unusual for me when I find a new 'ship I like!

Pettersson spoilers ahoy!

I did a re-read of the Jo Archer books (after I read the sixth, go figure) and they hold up well. The first two are still my favourites though - once it got into Midheaven, I found the books dragged a bit more.

I loved the whole concept of the Grays, but it would have been nice if one had popped up in some small way in earlier books, just from a thematic POV. They were mentioned in passing, but never more than that. And there was a lot of new character intro-ing in the final 2 books, it felt like.

Still it was awesome. And I loved the romance angle of it. Freakin' hot.

(Though the whole Lola angle reminded me muchly of the end of the Drak Visions trilogy. Weird.)

I re-read them a while ago, too, and the earlier books are an absolute riot! I agree about the Midheaven plot. Originally I was really intrigued by the idea of Midheaven when Skimmer first mentioned in, but then the reality of it turned out to be less fascinating than I thought it would be. I was expecting a crazy place where we'd learn more about the signs, the history, more about the Tulpa etc. But nope ( ... )
