The Lion King
This was the first movie I ever saw at the cinema.

Okay, I feel really old reading that, as I went to see it for my 16th birthday (which, coincidentally, is tomorrow -- the birthday, not the 16 part).

I remember seeing The Fox and the Hound in the theaters when I was around 6 or 7. I only remember snatches of it. What I remember most was that it made me feel really sad, so I never watched it again.

Ooh, happy birthday in advance! Or right on the day or even after the day (can't quite tell with time differences...) Our birthdays are pretty close then, since mine is in December.

You could choose to feel old or make the sensible choice and decide that the first movie I ever saw I was actually very old because my mother used to be convinced that I would somehow encounter terrible dangers while sitting in a dark public place, even if I was with her and my brother :D. (Well, the second half was kind of true hilariously enough, she was a little paranoid).

Fox and the Hound hits a little too close to home for most kids I think. No kid wants to think that their best friend forever and ever might not stay with them for always.

Thanks! (It's today, 11/19.) My mother's due date was actually in December but I arrived a few weeks early.

Yeah, between FatH, Bambi's mom being shot, and Dumbo being ripped away from his mom, I was pretty traumatized during my childhood. Even Cinderella's stepsisters ripping her dress to shreds upset me.

Seriously, I see babies and kids around 3 to 5 and think to myself, I had to beg my mother for ages until she finally let me see a movie at the cinema. They don't know how lucky they have it!

I was lucky to be too young and a bit uh, dense to not understand what happened in Bambi (I thought that Bambi's mother just ran off, and back then I didn't actually think about what that meant). With Dumbo it wasn't until I was older and realised what happened to dangerous elephants that it hit me for real. But I agree about Cinderella's dress being ripped. It was one of those moments where you really understand just how little power Cinderella had. Even her nice happy moments get screwed over!
