Prophecy Granger Snape Proposal (note shameless key word abuse)

What does one say when one hasn't posted for six months? I'm alive? Oh, yay! I've been thinking about posting for weeks now, for months ... but then an inner voice always kicks in: "You idiot. They think you're dead or gone to Antarctica." And the longer you wait, the more idiotic you feel ( Read more... )

Oh, I'm so glad you've posted a note! YAY YOU'RE ALIVE! :D

And YAY, you're writing about some fantastically interesting stuff! Wow. These are things worthy of analysis in the fandom. Too often, people think that ALL fandom is composed of the crazies who dig rape. Those mentalities drove me away, frankly. I'm always so glad when people step up and show another side. Nice work!

Dear Aph ... how wonderful to hear from you! And thanks for the encouraging words about the Prophecy workshop. Your comment reminds me of a recent Slate article about Phoenix Rising in which the journalist (as they typically seem to do!) seemed to equate fanfic as weirdo sex-perversion, or with pathetic losers who have no "real" lives. Makes me cross!

yay!! you're alive!!!! re the student-teacher relationship: would you want to mention the real-life relationship between author historians Will and Ariel Durant? He was her teacher and she was his student - when they wed, she was 15, he was 28. Not as big an age gap as Severus and Hermione (19 years), but Ariel was FIFTEEN!!!! They were married about 68 years, until their deaths.

I think marriage partners who are continually growing will always learn something from the other, and both teach each other. The ability to learn from someone can be a most attractive turn-on.

This year, though, don't waste too much time on any idjit reporters!

Hi June,

I didn't know about the Durants, but they sound interesting ... I'll find out more and perhaps include them in my historical examples. Thanks for that!

As for those reporters ... you bet.

It would be wonderful if you came to the workshop (and squeee right back at ya!). But either way, I'm looking forward to seeing you at Prophecy.

:o) Good, I can sit in on another one of your lectures! I'll be there, with bells on my toes (and quite possibly that will be literally with bells on my toes).

LOL! So if I hear a lot of ringing, does that mean you're kicking the a** of the fanfic-writer-hating journalist sitting in front of you? I do hope so!

Oh I'll be kicking someone (and it's probably one of the event coordinations for this {not poor CC though}) cause I'm very unhappy with how this event is being run, in comparison to Lumos (which bad food aside) was lovely.

If there is a fanfic-writer-hating journalist there, we can tie him/her up and read him/her loads of bad sex smut that is published, and then our good stuff.

?? It hasn't begun yet--and now I'm curious, if you'd be willing to share.

Classic teacher/student Snape/Harry (ca. 2003), which may seem very troped now but which helped to establish some of the tropes within that ship: Cybele's If You Are Prepared, or the first few segments of Telanu's Tea sequence, available here, though you'll need to drill down (Fiction, HP, ...).

I've no idea who's writing interesting Snarry with consciousness of the teacher/student aspect since HBP :P but those two have "stuck" within my memory.

Yes! I should have thought of IYAP myself < slaps forehead >. Thank you so much for the rec, gthistle. As for its status as trope-maker, that's not so much a concern, since I really want to focus on more obvious tropes and themes in the workshop.

I now realize I started to read this fic over a year ago, and I remember liking the sophisticated, intelligent style.
