Warhammer Online

Has anyone played Warhammer Online?

I kind of wrote it off at first as the whole grinding experience of World of Warcraft really turned me off to MMOs...but it's focus on PvP, the darker design, the rave reviews, and the fact that it was designed specifically to be anti-grind makes me think I might just want to try it out ( Read more... )

I was going to write a comment basically trashing this game saying "All MMOs are trying to be World of Warcraft" but god damn, it looks beautiful. Also, I've played Warhammer 40k and I'm familiar with how badass Chaos are, and I like how each class-race combo is unique.

If this game is truly "anti-grind" as you say, I will start playing as soon as I get a new computer.

Considering that Blizzard stole so much of Warcraft's storyline (and the fucking Orcs) from Warhammer it makes sense that they'd seem similar...and I'm glad that Warhammer rightfully stole a ton of the better interface elements from WoW.

People are talking about Warhammer like it's going to be the #2 MMO soon due to the fact that it (apparnetly) has the best PvP system of all the MMOs and you can level up through PvP. AND DON'T THE FUCKING CHAOS LOOK AWESOME!!!???

You're crazy. You can solo to 80 just doing quests if you want, but instances with groups are more enjoyable. However their raids are the the bomb, it's where the game truly excels, especially at the high end.

Now the FIRST Everquest was all grinding, not EQ2.

I loved raiding in WoW...it was the thing I enjoyed the most about it and I think, had I stuck around for very long after the first expansion was released, I would have really enjoyed the PvP stuff like the Arena that they came up with...but so much work is required in order to just get to these enjoyable points that it makes it seem really pointless to keep doing that grind.

Now I think I would rather get involved in the kinds of things that Warhammer seems to be offering. The Realm-versus-Realm, the public quests, that sort of stuff...they really strike me as innovative ways to keep things exciting and to keep players involved in the full process of advancing both their characters and their "team" (whatever Warhammer's version of "Alliance" and "Horde" are). The (supposedly) great PvP is what really piques my interest, though, because that's what I think I'd spend most of my time doing.

Sean and I are playing Warhammer Online. Azazel Server. Destruction side. (My main is Srianti and Sean's is Karnothe. We play with a bunch of local teenage guys that are politically incorrect and scare off both role players and women. It's kind of funny ( ... )

Very informative, thank you. Any idea if they do free trials?

I double checked with Sean because I wanted to be really sure. And no, Warhammer doesn't have free trials. I thought they might and I dug through our boxes for you and nothing. Sean confirmed it.

I think that's kind of sucky and shows a lack of confidence in their game. But for whatever reason, they don't offer them.

I don't think even WoW or Everquest did them for quite some time. I think it took WoW something like a year before they put theirs out (maybe six months).

I think I might get it in a couple months...in the next month there's going to be a ton of games for the 360 to satisfy my urge for new and exciting things (Fable II and Gears of War 2 will probably consume my life so much that I won't have time for anything else anyway). But once that dies down maybe I can dive into something like Warhammer.

I like the idea of getting in on one of these games fairly early and not feeling like I'm playing a constant feeling of catch-up with whatever friends I make or guilds I join.
