I have to say, this morning's new post came as nothing of a surprise. And quite frankly, I'm almost happy. Watching those five squirm is like....and this probably is the worst analogy I'll ever make....watching someone slowly die. Ouch Alison, that was harsh.
I mean, let's face it. They're not happy and they haven't been into this for quite sometime, and (The Drama Queen speaks here) there's nothing worse than wasting valuable stage time. Especially when there are so many other things they could be doing on that very same stage, just in a different arrangement and in much higher spirits.
So, ok. No more Johnny Jump Up, no more "we're not gay...swear!" banter and no more screeching Matt girl hissyfits.
Oh wait. That's going to happen wherever, whenever. (Did I just quote Shakira?)
P.S. In re-reading my own dribble, as I'm prone to do, I realize that last line makes it sound like I only love you a little bit. On the contrary. I love you to infinity, I was just cleverly referring to you as my "Little Bit."
I understand its a happy thing. I was just taking a moment to babble about memories.
And no, it came as no surprise. It was one of those "I know it's coming, but I still flinch when it gets here..." Kinda like getting a shot at the docs. You know it's for the best, but it still stings a bit.
And I love you to infinity too, my wonderful big... ps, a NCDL isn't that bad, i promise.
I think its sad as well, but no one can say they didn't give it their all - I don't want to insult the guys from Athenaeum, but the guys from Jump didn't always disappear for so long and basically had a worse deal with Atlantic Records. I'd say that they've fared well over the years and I'll miss them.
Long live Cityfest '99 when Jump and Athenaeum played back to back on the same stage.
Oh, I wanted to be there - unfortunately on 6/24 @ 4:00pm I'll be on an airplane heading out west for the weekend... I had my ticket booked before Jay had his show, even though I hate the assholes who run the Neighborhood Theatre - I realized after the last Robert Earl Keen show that they don't give a flying crap about the music, just the money... Too bad Jay isn't playing the Muse again because that was fun last year. Have fun.
