Auction: 16th C. Spanish dress

Oct 27, 2009 21:22

Ok, this auction is a bit different.

I've got this dress. It's been worn twice, but it never has fit me properly - it's a little too long-waisted for me.

Up for auction is a late 16th. C. Spanish style dress with a long train and a gold underskirt.

I am 5'10" and my hoop has about a 3 yard diameter. I am approximatly a size 18W and I (used to) wear this with a corset. The dress could be taken in a little bit if the buyer was a good tailor. The dress has a long train (see photos) and a gold striped underskirt. The hoop DOES NOT COME WITH THE DRESS. Neither does a shirt or a corset. The dress should be worn at minimum with a ruffled-collar or standing collar shirt, a corset, and a farthingale (hoop skirt).

The dress is made of a heavy weight cotton fabric and is FULLY lined, including the skirt. It moves really beautifully. The sleeves are hanging and can be worn on or off the undersleeve (see photos). The undersleeves are sewn in for convenience.

There are about 8 yards of green fabric in this dress, and about 3.5 of the gold, and then all the lining. The buttons are (probably brass) metal.

Almost $100 worth of materials went into this dress. Normally I would sell something like this as a custom item for about $350. However, as it was made for me and was worn twice, I will start the auction at $75. I'll cover shipping. Save Dave's! Auction ends November 2, 2009 at noon.

This would be great to wear at the Ren Faire or at a Con.
