There are a couple of things I meant to blog about this weekend - and will soon - but something has come up that takes precedence. It requires a bit of backstory

Well said! both of you! I only hope her dad can look at his "church position" thru the eyes of the true christianity I'm sure he professed and believed once.
Seriously. The liberal Lutheran church that RealSarah and I grew up in taught that God is love and acceptance. I'm pleased to see that that church is a proud member of the LCNA, a group that welcomes GLBT people into the church. In my mind, Christianity should be about striving to be Christ-like. Charlotte deserves a standing ovation for her gloriously frank letter. I wish both she and your brother-in-law the very best as they both find their way in worlds that are new to both of them -- and that Charlotte's family may come to a place of understanding. You also deserve a hearty pat on the back for that eloquent reply to Charlotte's father.
Those letters were very articulate. I'm too much inclined to say some variant of "None of your @&*@!#%^! business!" and not be terribly polite about it.
I had a friend when I was a kid. He knew he was gay since he was 8, and no one was surprised when he came out. We all knew he was gay, even before any of us hit puberty.
What gets me is that the most ignorant of the ignoramuses not only don't want their kids to be gay, but they don't want them being heterosexual either, at least not until they get married. As if sexuality is a matter of choice and you can turn it on or off at will.
If the extremists had their way, we'd all be asexual.
