there's a book called "Under The Overpass" written by Mike Yankoski. basically he and a friend of his gave up eveything they had for a number of months and with only a backpack and guitars they willingly became homeless to not only be a witness while they were homeless, but to better understand that type of living (i guess one would say) and to be able to witness to the homeless better later on. anyway, that's only a bit of it, but the book is really powerful and makes you just want to buy a bunch of things, go into Boston or somewhere of the liking, and go on a giving spree to those who can't. i read your post and thought of that book right away so i figured i'd let you know about it-if you don't already (it seems that you'd like it a whole lot). :).
