Saving Numb3rs - The Fandom

Sep 03, 2010 19:36

Hey gang. I realize that this community has been quiet since we heard the crushing news that our favorite Fedcakes wouldn't be returning for a Season 7. But I see the community is still here and so I thought maybe I could post something to run an idea by you ( Read more... )

I love the series, I enjoy reading fic, although it's been a long time since I wrote a Numb3rs fic, but I always enjoy a fandom a little bit more once the series is off the air. It's fun to write fic without worrying that the next episode will completely contradict something written.

And I always adore watching the eps and talking about them.

haha. You know, that's a REALLY great point and I might have to use that as a campaign slogan to get more fic written! LOL.

As for watching the episodes and talking about them, I'm hoping to get numb3rs_revival up and going soon where we will be watching the episodes and then hosting discussions. I hope this will help regenerate some of the love for our favorite show. :)

Thanks for chiming in!

Please join us over there! I'm still trying to work out the schedule and figure out what to do with the community (I just took over the mod duties. MEEP!) but hopefully we'll be doing a rewatch soon. :)

Candi,

You should definitely join us! Cheryl Heuton still stops by occasionally with tidbits of information "for chat only."

I've been using Photoshop Elements to put my screencaps into albums, and posting those albums on a website I've been working on. Because I can't figure out a way to put those albums directly on Stats' website, I'll put a link there when I finish the whole project. But if you'd like to see the progress so far and see what the albums look like, here's the link Jo's Numb3rs screencaps

Using Photoshop Elements for the screencap albums is a great idea! Very organized. :)

What time do you all chat on the weekends anyway? Thanks so much for the information.

Thanks! We chat at 9 Eastern time. Lately, people haven't been showing up until 9:30 or so. So if you come in and nobody's there, just wait. We'll show up eventually!

I think one of the big things is that people do need to keep on commenting on fic if they want authors to keep writing

I definitely think this is important, particularly for the new authors that are coming into the fandom! I'm guilty of not commenting as often as I used to so that's definitely something we should campaign for.

Jumping in here to agree with rinkle. Commenting is hugely important in keeping a fandom going. And people do need to be prepared to think (and read) outside their normal boxes. As fic supplies dwindle it's harder and harder to stick to a favourite pairing, and experimentation can bring unexpected rewards!

I know I haven't written in the fandom for a while (and really must finish the two WIP I started! *guilty look*), but I do have a huge soft spot for it and would like to see it stay alive, despite cancellation.

I agree with the posted who have said that commenting on the fic that is posted is a positive way of making a contribution. I know writers don't solely write in order to receive comments, but it certainly helps writers to maintain their enthusiasm.

Discussion posts are a good idea, and maybe re-watch posts. had N3 fandom done those? We do a lot of them in Primeval fandom. We agree a night of the week and a time, and have a live rewatch on one of the comms where people watch together and just make stream of conciousness comments throughout the ep. You only need a few people joining in for it to be great fun. We get people from various different time zones joining in.

Regular fic recs are good as well, especially to give older stories some love.

If there's anything I can do to help, I'm happy to pitch in.

maybe re-watch posts. had N3 fandom done those?

numb3rs_revival was setup for this purpose and until this summer, had been very successful in watching the previous season. I just recently took over the modding duties over there and I plan on doing a rewatch of all the seasons. I just have to get my life in order (moving is a pain in the butt) and then I am hoping to get that community up and going so we can do rewatches and have discussions. I think that will be great fun! :)

And I'm definitely with you on the fic recs. I've been trying to promote more recs in the communities I mod because recs are a really great way to spread the love.

Thanks so much for this comment! I'm so glad to get feedback and to know I'm not alone in wanting to save the fandom. The hard part will be figuring out the best way to put some of these campaigns into action.

That sound great. That way I might finish the final series!

I've also just left a long comment on lilacs_roses's journal Here with some thoughts.

I'm beginning to think it's reached a point in the fandom where like minded people need to actively consider pooling resources and supporting a very general comm, rather than being so fragmented. I've used the analogy there of Primeval fandom, which is the main one I'm involved with, and a general comm seems to have worked for us. If you have a moment, take a look at primeval_denial. We run all the sort of activities I've seen people talk about for N3, but we keep it all under one umbrella.

It helped us survive cancellation and I think it could help N3. And I'm prepared to put some effort in helping figure things out if I can be of any help bouncing ideas. You're certainly not alone in wanting to save the fandom. Munchkin and I have been talking about that very thing today.

I'm still here, babes. And I ain't going anywhere. In fact, I'm just about to start researching an article my boss (who is uber-cool and knows full well my dedication to N3) has asked me to write ( ... )
