Like the LA Style song says, "James Brown is dead."  I've been a fan of his music since I've been a kid, and am the proud owner of the Star Time boxed set, and can think of few artists who had the impact on music he did.  Without him, there would probably be no funk, rap, or hip hop.  The sound of the JB Horns also lent itself to many rock and pop ( Read more... )

I don't think the general public will be fooled. I know I wasn't.
I could give a shit about Ford. James Brown has much more import than that, you have little to worry about.

Some big trees in the forest have fallen and we will not see the likes of them again. Some of my earliest (Like in the crib) musical memories involve James Brown's music; he was part of the soundtrack of my childhood.

As for Gerald Ford, I don't think he had as deep an impact on American culture as Brown but he did inherit the ultimate mantle of power during one of the most tumultuous periods in American history.

That being said, at least this morning, while Ford's death was the top story, Brown's death was the second one. I can live with that.
