I hold things like this up for knee-jerk types who say things like "all cultures are equal and deserving of equal respect."

The way to judge the advancement of a society is how women and children are treated.

It's a pretty safe bet that the societies who practice this also won't ever get electricity, indoor plumbing, literacy, medicine, etc. together either.
