Love means not having to show it for commercial holidays. Just showing it by showing how much you really care.

We do love the gifts at work. But I think it has to more with how the significant other isn't afraid to make a showy PDA, rather than for bragging rights. It doesn't have to be expensive, but just a thoughtful gift to show that your guy/gal understands and appreciates you.
