CHARACTERS: distinctive_guy and YOU DATE: Dec 05 (Day 22; Afternoon) RATING: Possible swearing? SUMMARY: Eliot's back in the kitchen cooking. Or making food anyway. For once it's not big portions.
Castle had followed his nose to the kitchen, as any starving man would. He had subsisted for the last few days of whatever he could find but was starting to get desperate. Upon entering the kitchen and seeing the sandwiches laid out, Castle's eyes widened. That almost looked gourmet. Who knew stuff like this even existed here?
Beckett had given him her spare. And stay inside when there were so many creepy, crazy, deadly things outside that could potentially kill him? Where was the fun in that?
"Don't take this wrong," Eliot started in a serious voice, "But those things out there, those monsters that like comin' out at night, a gun won't stop'em."
And Eliot didn't miss the fact that Rick said he knew how to use one, not has one. He gave him a quick appraising glance to see if the man might be carrying.
Castle shrugged again, waving his hand. He honestly didn't have plans to venture too far outside of the gates after dark. What he was more worried about right now was something that was puzzling him.
There was a subtle shift in the writer's tone that raised the red flags in Eliot's mind. He kept it casual, but there was a sharpening of his senses in case things went south nonetheless. "Yeah? What about it?"
Crap. Thinking on his feet, Eliot laughed and crossed his arms in a relaxed manner.
"Grew up down south with my daddy but went to high school in Boston." He raised his brows as if asking whether the curious writer had any more questions.
"Not really." Eliot shrugged, keeping that casualness about him as he spun out a background story for one Mr. Spooner that he hadn't expected to need. He never imagined requiring a cover story here too, but good thing he was a professional liar. "My momma's from Boston, so it wasn't my first time there. Went back and forth growin' up."
The farm boy speech was still not adding up to Castle at all. But he smiled, because, after all, the guy had given him a pretty awesome sandwich and if he wanted to hide stuff about himself from people here then Castle couldn't really blame him. But that wouldn't stop him from being curious about it.
"I've never lived outside of New York City. Actually I take that back. My mother had a foray in Los Angeles for about 7 months, found no work, and thankfully moved us back east."
"Movin' twice in a year? Must've been hard, man." Relieved that they went away from discussing his back story, Eliot could manage to sound a little sympathetic. He knew about moving around and could smile convincingly compassionate even if he felt nothing for it now. "Cross the country too. Guess the hassle prevented you from movin' a third time."
"Yeah well. My mother can be flighty, but she's a theater actress and she knows most of her work is in New York City. She tried to make a bid for the movies but it wasn't happening. We didn't move again."
"Ah." His experience with actresses came either from getting to know them behind room doors or grifters who broke the law but was bad on stage. Eliot would guess neither of which were a good reference to compare with Rick's mother.
"Right. That's where Broadway is." That much he knew.
"That. Looks amazing."

"You said you work for Boston PD?"

"Where's that accent from?"
It seemed more than a little bit south of Boston. And Boston PD tended to be exclusive.

"Really? Most people tend to go the other way, if you know what I mean. North to south. Not.. vice versa."
Castle finished the sandwich.
"Must have been culture shock."
