Character Information
Name: Mizuki "Miki" Hayama

School Year: 5th
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Out of school living location: Heidelberg, Germany (visits Cairn, Queensland every so often) -- Reason for location based on this blog post
hereBlood status: Muggleborn. Part of a Muggle Family.
Personality: So, Mizuki is what all of her friends like to call a "special" individual…. a very special individual…. And what they really mean by special is annoying. She's loud, blunt, hyperactive, and it seems like her thought process is on a different wavelength than that of other people. After all, who would really associate that vanilla ice cream tastes like family? Her. Anyway, in either case, with that in mind it's obvious the blonde isn't the brightest crayon in the box by far but definitely one of the most interesting. The young girl may be saying the most random of things nine times out of ten but she has more depth to her than the typical bubbly teenager.
Firstly, Mizuki is more astute than many realize. What she lacks in immediate book smarts -- (She hates math and history by the by. horribly. terribly. god and merlin awfully they’re boring and calculations are a pain) -- she makes up in empathy and a pragmatic outlook on life. Mizuki had to deal with many a different person when she was quite young and experience has had her understand that there are all sorts of people and their actions differ on reasons. It sounds vague and broad, and it is. For example, with people who lie, her thought process is as follows: People do lie and, in lying, they may have bad intentions. On the other hand others may shove people away not because they want to, but they believe they have to. There's all sorts. Knowing this is why Mizuki tends to know a melting pot of people and continuously bothers them in her blunt attitude. That is merely for the actual people however. As for her pragmatic attitude towards life and why she is rather in your face: Live in the moment as you can die at any time and don't regret anything. Don't beat around the bush as life is too short. Mind, Mizuki doesn't shove it down other people's throats or not understand others' reasons for ambition and the ~*~future~*~ but if you bring her along to a confession to your true love as back up, she's likely to spurt out what you're trying to avoid to say.
I guess that's why a lot of people get annoyed at her.
But back to not being the brightest crayon. For years Mizuki's gotten fantastic grades despite what people may consider booksmarts to be her handicap. Why? Because she doesn't want to let her parents down. Mizuki is a dedicated worker in general of course but she doubly goes through these efforts for her muggle parents to show them that she's a good daughter. At least in that aspect. It may take her longer to study and with help but she gets it done. You can usually find her studying and having a hard time of it (all aggravated usually if it's history or math) but she learns it through sheer determination and it sticks. Afterwards, of course she'd prefer running about, reading manga, chatting, and devouring food like most teenage girls but she'd damn well make sure to get that work done.
Then maybe quidditch.
Canon Background: Let's start with the fact that Mizuki's name before she was adopted was Miki (last-name-unknown). Now, Miki was the beloved only child of a seemingly normal family and had a rather wonderful childhood. At least that was until one summer day. At a very young age her family had gone to a local fair and it was the best and the last day ever. It was the day that ingrained that 'soft serve ice cream tastes like family' to her. That evening Miki's mother strangled the then young girl until she passed out and the lot of them drove off a cliff in an attempted family suicide. Attempted as in, Miki was the only one who was able to be pulled from the ocean and live, and thusly was put into an orphanage in Otowa, Japan.
Traumatized that her family (especially her mother) would do that to her, Miki then secluded herself away from everyone she could see and was terrified to be touched by anyone… Especially adults. To run away, at least temporarily from the people, she would then hide in the church nearby in the afternoons and evenings. It was a flop as sadly her escape only proved to be a haven to two high school students named Yuuko and Yuu as well.
Now, these two had already been through their own set of drama and they frequently visited the church regularly to Miki's disapproval. Yuuko found Miki hiding there and tried to get close to the still traumatized girl. It took a few times to get closer and closer… despite the awkwardness and all… but eventually Miki got used to Yuuko. In fact, Yuuko became a mother figure to the parentless girl after some bonding and Yuu became the stoic-father-esque figure. The family dynamic helped Miki grow out of her phobia of people and actually return back (well, as back as one could be) into her actual outgoing personality. Life became fun again for her. The orphan's life was chugging ahead to greener pastures. She was hanging around her not-really-parents…Maybe they would be adopting her later… having a normal life…
But sadly, on Christmas day of that same year, things changed. Miki had heard a violin melody in the nearby town square and following it she found one Kuze Shuuichi, the to-be famous violinist, playing "A Moon Filled Sky" (
Music can be heard here). As Yuuko had sung the melody with Miki, the young girl was intrigued and approached the to-be-yet famous teenager without any fear. Surprised at the brave little audience he had, Kuze then gave Miki his blue ribbon saying she looked cuter with her hair up. At that same time Yuu had just gotten off of work and bought a bouquet of flowers for Yuuko… And Yuuko who had been waiting near the church had the unfortunate luck of being in a car accident. Stubbornly Yuuko wandered away to lean on a tree, bleeding, upset, and holding onto the hope of seeing her beloved again. It was futile though. Miki and Yuu found her too late and they carried her dead body to the hospital, Miki sobbing the entire way.
Years later, Miki was adopted by the Hayama family who had lost their only child merely a year ago in a drowning accident. They gave her the same name their previous child had and gave her strict rules. One was to stay away from bodies of water (a rule she still doesn't follow). Despite the fact she was initially adopted to replace the previous Mizuki, her new family treated her like their own and not as a replacement. She then had a pretty normal (but strict) life. She joined the basketball team in middle school, grew a crush on one of her older friends (and also basketball player) because she was 'cool', got good grades (because of the strict regimen of studying her parents forced), got manga (especially shoujo) and ice cream, hung out with friends… She lived rather a normal teenage life. Mizuki was also fairly close to her (not blood related) cousin in Australia too and the two called each other frequently. During the summer on Mizuki's end she became the ear Renji needed and gave him advice (Ef - A Tale of Memories.). On a side note, she was also the not-really-rival to all men for her girl-crush Kei. …Kei is as straight as a board though. Bawwwh.
During Christmas-time though Mizuki visited Australia for vacation. Now, as her Uncle was overseas for work, her aunt had cooking club and errands to do, and her cousin still had school, and her parents still wanted to keep her safe, she wasn't allowed to be left all alone for most of the day. Their neighbor, Kuze Shuuichi, was thus then pulled in unwillingly to watch her in the mornings and afternoon. Not remembering that they had met a long time ago, Mizuki exuberantly poked about Kuze and got to know him to the best of her capabilities. He was a bit of a lech, is (or rather was) a famous violinist, a pessimist, going to die in less than a year, and-- well there were many bad qualities to him but there was one thing that stuck out to her: He was passionate and through all his masks he was a sweet man. At least that's what she believed. She could hear it in his music.
Mizuki fell for him and chased after him fervently despite the fact that he kept pushing her away time after time. Kuze, desperate to cut all ties to everyone, finally scared Mizuki off by questioning her beliefs on why she loved him. It was that time while she was mulling over things that she remembered her time as a child and Yuuko. As it was close to the time she had died Mizuki had then laid flowers for her old mother-figure where she had gotten in an accident (the town is a remake of the one in Japan so it's the same essential place in parallel) and talked with the remet Yuu. Not regretting anything then, in her last effort, she then challenged Kuze to the top of the local high school (affiliated with the one at her home town) and 'reincarnated' him by kicking his chest. The two finally came to terms of loving each other… and then Kuze passes out on the spot.
Did I mention this show is a drama on acid? If I hadn't, well now you know. At the hospital they reconcile further and understand that he will die sooner or later, operation or not. Still, It would be better to try at least right? So the two make a promise to see each other again right before Kuze gets his operation. In a much dramatic fashion, he literally flatlines on the table.
But all is well as Mizuki sings the new version of a Moon Filled Sky and his pulse starts back up at the end. YAAAAY.
Now they're together for maybe five years. :[ Yes, that’s essentially it as they have a nice bonding moment at the end of the year around Christmas. Woo hoo!
Background (AU!Canon; HP): (Crimson Note: a lot of this is parroting the above history with some different details. Apologies in advance.) To say Mizuki hasn't had any trauma in her life would be lying. Not that the entirety of her life didn't have any sunshine and rainbows though-- It did! In fact it started off fine: She was born as the only child to a normal middle class muggle family in Heidelberg, Germany with the name Miki. Yes, a weird name, I know. Maybe they had a weird liking to Mickey Mouse… But moving on! And Miki was treated very well! She was like many an only child daughter: Spoiled rotten. She was given toys, comics, tons of love, and plenty of sweets for years. Unfortunately the by then 5 year old girl couldn't understand what the spoiling boiled down to though. It was actually quite a secret to everyone. They were over their head in debt to the wrong crowd, suffered from great stress and extreme bouts of depression, and they were looking at having no true income till god knows when. Miki was the only great thing in their life and they tried so hard to make her life happy because of that. Being the only light comes with a price though when everything else seems so bleak. Her parents came to a hard decision one summer evening.
And it was the best and worst evening ever. Miki was brought to the local fair and had a blast with all the rides, balloons, and ice cream. Tuckered out and brought to their little run down car, her mother did something she never thought she could. Miki was not just buckled in, but she was strangled till she passed out and then was part of a family suicide to be driven into the River Neckar. Be it for the better or worse however, the poor traumatized girl was the only one to survive and was then put into the orphanage in that same town.
Now, this wasn't Oliver Twist, horrid, got to eat bread off the floor orphanage. No. It was a very pleasant orphanage except for the fact that Miki had grown a fear of being around people. While all of the other children and adults kept being kind and nice to her, she kept having nightmares of drowning and in her post-trauma affliction she imagined everyone near her strangling her... especially those whom were nice to her. She withdrew herself from anyone around and to seek solace, she hid at the nearby catholic church. A haven for herself and… two wizards.
Yuuko and Yuu, having had their own drama with insane dark wizards (AKA Yuuko’s brother) had left school early one year to get themselves put together again. They, like Miki, found just the same solace in the church. While Yuu was at work, Yuuko met the young Miki and noticing the girl was dealing with her own drama, she gently coaxed the girl out. Despite the fears the young girl had then, Miki was curious on how Yuuko wore a lot of clothing (including gloves) and just… knit in a church. Why would anyone else hide here? Knit here? The two got closer then, first just sitting nearby, then talking, then even singing together. They got close enough to the point that they seemed much like a mother-daughter pair and Miki's old outgoing personality had returned. Yuu, with his association with Yuuko, became much like a father-figure which completed the faux-family dynamic. The bunch then promised to see each other on Christmas.
That Christmas Miki had met a pre-famous violinist right down the road in her wanderings about and was a mini audience for the teen. As she was the only one there for his not-really concert, and the poor man was besides himself with amusement. He had gave her a ribbon for her hair with the mention that she looked cuter with it up. In the meanwhile, Yuuko was waiting for the two. In a tragic turn of events, because this was a smaller muggle town with not that many car accidents, Yuuko had not expected the sudden car coming at her. Hit, and not with anyone around on such a holiday other than the drunk driver in the car, she crawled to a tree and tried gathering what strength she had. It wasn't enough though as in her last breaths she regretted being hit after everything and her pleads to live proved meaningless to air. Her dead body was then found by the young Miki and distraught Yuu whom had followed the ambulance sirens to the wreck and Yuu carried Yuuko away to the hospital with the sobbing orphan in tow.
That was the last day MIki saw either of them. When she asked about a funeral about Yuuko to anyone no one had heard of her and Yuu had disappeared without a trace leaving her all alone again. It was only for a short time though as she was adopted not even two weeks later by a warm but strict family. They had lost their own daughter in a drowning accident and needed someone to replace that hole. It wasn't so bad being a replacement despite all the rules of staying away from larger bodies of water, strict curfews, and doing good so she had the 'perfect' future. It still left a lot more flexibility to her life and as thus she had a pretty normal life as Mizuki. Her cousin Renji was amazing too. He called her frequently and the two became fast friends-- or at least ears to each other.
Years passed on normally still and at age 11 Mizuki was flabbergasted by an owl delivering a old parchment letter. It was like one of those birds of prey shows-- or a movie-- or-- or… It seemed like a joke. The transition to go to Hogwarts was a bumpy one of course as they had great plans for their young daughter. Plans that changed with a series of Mizuki pleading, a man in a robe showing up on their doorstep, explanations, candy, and more pleading. Thus she was sent with big expectations and wishes.
Whether this is a good thing or not, that's still a debatable clover.

Gryffindor: Mizuki is full of courage. In canon she runs up to a violin case that's on fire and tries to pat it out with her bare hands. As that doesn't work she runs off a few meters and then KICKS the thing into the ocean. And that's only one of the many time she's shown sheer… well I guess you could also call that nerve. As for the last description of Gryffindor being Chivalry… Mizuki teeters on that. She gets up in your face and tends to be the nosy one even if all you want is time alone or space. That's not to say she doesn't have any but she doesn't do the traditional type of Chivalry. Will ice cream help though? huh? Huh?
Hufflepuff: Friends of Mizuki, while being annoyed at her half the time know one thing about her- she's the most loyal … thing ever. She's persistent to a fault and will be like an ant to sugar and not let go ever. Mizuki will tolerate a lot (except the obvious you're going to kill this person etc evil stuff) and work hard for something she deems needs to be done. As for other things… Mizuki is rather fair but she is the sort that does more fun rather than fair rules, and as for hard work, that depends on what she thinks, again, is fun. Comics? Yes. Games? Yes. Things that have to be done? …Sorta. Like homework? She'll do it but it's mores because of rules that she will do it (and to make her parents proud).
Ravenclaw: Wit, Intelligence, learning, and creativity. Mizuki holds them even though she's not the brightest crayon in the box. In fact she's probably the bright grey-blue instead of the shining white or silver. Ignoring metaphors: She's very creative in spades because of how she thinks in her own logic. Ice cream tastes like family and religion reminds her of Star Wars. (I kid you not. In canon she thought the catholic sign of the cross was in reference to it.) And while she may seem oblivious most of the time she is very astute to people and life. Does that show 9/10s of the time? If you pay attention, maybe. But she definitely goes by the beat of her own drum.
Slytherin: First off, Mizuki is not a pure blood. Not that it matters that much, however there is that. She does however have resourceful and have cunning-- In the aspect that she'll say things bluntly to you. She has a crush on you? Why go around the bush and just outright say it? …Okay, well, that's not quite right on cunning but really she's a very blunt person most of the time and she can take what's nearby to its full use. She’s the type to use a pillow as a bat if need be. It works. Aaaand… she'd be the type to use a piece of furniture or a nearby utensil as a weapon-again, if need be. As for ambition and leadership, Mizuki doesn't really care about leading as much as guiding things to how they're supposed to be. She's ambitious in sports, but not so much in other things unless it's fun and other people might have fun too. … Winning is awesome though.

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person: [200 word minimum]
Mizuki was intensely staring at the blank parchment in front of her with furrowed brows. Its off-white canvas seemingly forbidding and intimidating but maybe, perhaps, if she tried to think hard she'd conjure up something to write this time. With nothing happening of course, as if she had expected it to, she then moved her blue eyes to peer over to the History of Magic book. The giant, annoying, dull, dusty, sleep inducing book. Now, it was a fact that she could ace any test or assignment given with enough effort. She could write pages and pages on the history of Cleopatra in over-elaborate gusto or, hell, she could bloody do the calculations for one of those… liquid death draughts. That was what they called them in the higher years right? Right. It'd be a pain, for sure, but she could. Maybe… okay she was only a third sure about that what with the estimations but that wasn't the problem here! The problem was that those subjects were more interesting than the 1800s of Magical history. She slumped over on the table she was using with outstretched arms and then sighed.
"Mmmmngh." She groaned and opened the book without looking. She flipped a few paged. "Hnnngrh…" Another page… another page… There.
And then she lazily rolled her head and glared at the page.
"In 1815…" She read. "Lord stick in the mud the third--"
Mmmngh… It seems really nice outside doesn't it--
"Helped the rebellion of…"
I bet I could do a couple laps around the lake or or or--
"Against the united coalition of-- AUUGHHH I CAN'T STAND THIS ANYMORE!" She threw her hands up and yelled. It was a short burst as she consequently flopped over and groaned again. Her eyes peered about for anyone. Someone. Even a becursed shusher at this library. Then she could at least ask for help.
And there they were.
"Hey! Hey you! You look like you might know! Come here! I said c’mere!"
