I've had a hard time deciding exactly what to say about the G20, the associated protests, the police response, and the fallout of it all

I agee, they shouldn't hold these things the wsay they do.
But you have to admit, it sure is a great way to beef up internal "security". Thay can even envoke new secret laws that they refuse to explain later. How else could they have done all that. The summit itself is just a ruse.

Your MPP didn't have much to do with it all... it was the federal level that the decisions were made for this summit.
I think the major reason people are thinking poorly of the police in this situation is the way they behaved -before- the summit. Detaining people who don't provide ID to police?

Ahh, but McGuinty was the one that pulled that little secret law out of his hat. No doubt at the behest of our fearless leader King Harper. But the fact remains, he did it and now he's refusing to discuss it. I'm holding him accountable for this mess too

There are a lot of questions that remain about this weekend, and none of them will realistically be answered. Why didn't the cops follow the 50 or so Black Bloc protesters instead of arresting the peaceful protesters? Why did they, the next day, continue to arrest peaceful protesters?
I still always come back to: Why did it happen at all?
Oh, but they don't get the pretty photo op with the teleconference. No way for them to validate their huge bloated budgets without actually having a picture of all of those leaders in a line smiling and shaking hands when, in fact, they all disagree on just about everything and accomplish nothing. Plus, those pictures will always be hermetically sealed away from the pictures of the protests.
